Dress for the Weather

Please make sure children are prepared for the weather. Spring in Cape Breton can bring some really cold temperatures, lots of mud and even spring showers. We want our children outside as much as possible. Canadian Pediatrics recommends at least 2 hours outside a day for children this includes their time afterschool.

According to the Nova Scotia Provincial Policy on Outdoor Play:

Children play indoors when the temperature falls below -25C (-13F) with or without a wind chill factor, or when the wind chill factor is -28C (15F) OR lower regardless of the temperature. (Canadian Pediatrics Society).

Here at JBC we hold to -15 degrees with wind chill. We know that the wind can feel even colder straight off the ocean as the icebergs and clampers make their way south.

New Sign-in Procedure for Students Arriving Late

Starting on Monday, March 18th, students who arrive after 8:45 will need to stop by the office to sign-in. Our teachers jump right into the teaching and learning. Sometimes student who arrive late are not changed in the system. This will help us accurately report who is late and who is absent. Please remind your child to stop by the office when arriving after 8:45. Thanks!

Attendance

Starting after March Break, Ms. Dilny will be calling any family who has a child who is absent but has not been signed off by a parent. Please use the app, webpage or phone number to sign your child off for the day. The procedure is posted on our Facebook page in the "Featured Posts."

Drop Off Procedure Drop Off Procedure

Please note slight change in time.

Our procedure has always been to drop off at the sidewalk near the preprimary playground. With these high snow banks, it is absolutely necessary to drop off at this location. Children can safely walk down the sidewalk to the front door or school play yard. For the safety of your children DO NOT send them down the bus ramp.
