CHS
Meet some of our CHS Veteran Teachers!
Mrs. Laura Carthy - AP English and AP Psychology My name is Laura Carthy and I have been teaching at Capital High School since 1995, just after completing my M.Phil degree in Ireland. There are a lot of things I love about Capital, but I would have to say that number one is our students. Throughout the years, I have taught numerous students who have shown incredible determination and resilience, and who have gone on to do great things after graduating from Capital. Many of these students now teach here alongside me, and many others are now good friends. This makes me very proud. In addition to genuinely loving my job, I enjoy running, playing lacrosse, watching football, reading, hiking, hugging my five dogs, and spending time with my husband.
Mr. Steve Hegmann - NM History
I believe our New Mexico History course is worthwhile. The process of growth and learning is invigorating, and providing students with a historical understanding equips them to be informed leaders. Furthermore, getting to know one another enriches our lives, because every person contributes to the vibrant tapestry of our community. This is my 18th year at Capital. I enjoy being at CHS!
Ms. Martha Carvlin - AP Spanish Language
Ms. Marty Carvlin is a Spanish, Spanish Language Arts, and AP Spanish Language and Culture teacher. She serves as the moderator for Modelo de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas and also mentors students who are striving to earn the State of New Mexico Seal of Bilingualism and Biliteracy. She is in her eleventh year at Santa Fe Public Schools and enjoys teaching at Capital HS where the students are vibrant and the classrooms are filled with students with a variety of backgrounds, talents, and ambitions.
Ms. Irina Cislaru - Physics
I began my journey at Capital High School in 2012, where I initially taught Physics and Chemistry. Over the years, I expanded into teaching AP Physics, and my passion for physics education has led me to focus exclusively on Physics and AP Physics this year. I genuinely love what I do and find great fulfillment in working with students, helping them discover the fascinating world of physics. Beyond the classroom, I'm proud to sponsor both the Science National Honor Society and the Supercomputing Challenge Club at our school, providing students with opportunities to explore their scientific interests and compete in exciting challenges that extend their learning beyond traditional coursework.

Here at Capital High School we know that attendance matters. We will start our Tardy procedure for Quarter 2. Parents/Guardians, please make an effort to ensure that your student(s) are on time each day so they won't have to wait in line for a tardy pass each morning.
When a student has accrued excessive unexcused tardies, per our site policy, they will be assigned temporary removal to the tardy room.
Tardies 6 - 8 = Tardy Room Remainder of the Period
Tardies 9 & 10 = Tardy Room Remainder of the Period and contact home
Tardy 11 = Tardy Room Remainder of the Period, meet with an administrator/dean, and contact home
Repeat the progressive disciplinary cycle.
Tardy 21 = Tardy Room Full Day and contact home

This is an exciting internship at one of the top art museums in Santa Fe where she will be able to work with other high school art students from around Santa Fe learning the job of curation, working with artists, selecting a theme for a show, selecting works for the show, and then having an opening exhibition, which will take place on February 27th.

SFPS Launches “Listening & Learning Tour” Community Forums
Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) is excited to announce the launch of its Listening & Learning Tour, a series of community forums designed to provide an open and welcoming space for students, families, staff, and community members to share feedback, ask questions, and connect directly with Superintendent Dr. Christine Griffin and district leadership.
