STAFFING ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR 2026-2027
We are excited to share some wonderful staffing news for the upcoming school year! This fall, we will be welcoming back Miss Mahon, Miss Nielsen, and Mr. Messick, whose return will undoubtedly bring continued energy and excellence to our classrooms. Additionally, we want to congratulate Mrs. Willis, who will be stepping into a vital new role as a Complexity Support Teacher for Battle River School Division. Please join us in celebrating these fantastic updates as we look forward to another incredible year ahead!
ABC COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER
GRADE 2 MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Our creative Grade 2 students turned everyday materials into incredible musical instruments last week, filling their classroom with different sounds and rhythms!
NEW EXTERIOR AIR MONITOR FOR OUR SCHOOL
As part of our Science programming, as well as our Health and Safety program for our school, using money from the grant we received for our Science lab, we have purchased a new exterior air quality monitor that has recently been installed at our school. This will help students learn about the different effects of air quality, and what weather and events like forest fires can do to the air we breathe. As well, it will allow us as a school to have more accurate data to decide whether outdoor activities are safe for students in the spring and fall when our air quality can become an issue.
Parents and community members will also be able to see the information soon on this website.

LIBRARY NEWS
Indigo Adopt a School Program
We are thrilled to announce that our school has been selected for the Indigo Adopt a School program for the 2026–2027 school year! This wonderful partnership connects us with a local Indigo, Chapters, or Coles bookstore to help rejuvenate our school library. Every dollar raised through this initiative will go directly toward putting brand-new, engaging books and literacy resources into our students' hands. Stay tuned for details on how our school community can participate and help us smash our fundraising goals this fall!
Library Books Now Due
All library books are due this Friday, June 12th. Please be sure to send back your child's books - the first class to return all their books gets donuts!
NIGHT OF THE ARTS
Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Night of the Arts an unforgettable success! Our school came alive as guests explored an incredible gallery of student artwork and enjoyed live performances from our talented school bands. This spectacular evening would not have been possible without the vision and hard work of our dedicated teachers and staff who organized the event, the brilliant students who shared their creativity, and our wonderful community members who came out to show their support. We are incredibly proud of our artists and musicians!
BAND NEWS
SR. High Band Tour: Rocky Mountain Edition!
Last week, our talented Sr. High Band took their music to new heights with an unforgettable tour through Canmore, Banff, and Jasper!
From bringing the house down with three fantastic performances to exploring some of Canada’s most iconic backdrops, our students truly did it all in just three days. Highlights of the trip included:
🌊 Seeing the power of the stunning Bow Falls
🚢 Cruising the deep blue waters of Lake Minnewanka
🚠 Catching breathtaking, panoramic views from the top of the Banff Gondola
We are so incredibly proud of how our students represented our school—both on stage and out in the community. Huge thank you to our amazing director, Mr. Lewsaw, our chaperones, and everyone who supported this trip! 🎷🎺🥁
EXAM SCHEDULE
As we move into June, students in Grade 6 and 9 will continue writing their Provincial Achievement Tests and our students taking Grade 12 courses will also write their Diploma exams. All dates for these exams are set by the provincial government, and can be found on the school calendar.
ROOFING WORK AT THE SCHOOL
Sections of the school roof above the office and the library hallway are being resurfaced and upgraded to help deal with some water issues inside of the school. This work will need to take place during the school day, with a hope of minimal disruptions.
The school feels it is important to let you know about the following important information, including safety precautions being taken for this work:
- There will be a work trailer parked in front of the school, so we ask that you avoid parking in front of it.
- There were also be a fenced off garbage bin east of the band room, and students will be kept away from this area.
- The roofing company will not be moving any of their equipment before, during, or after recesses, or during arrival and dismissal.
- Any movement of equipment will be supervised by a spotter.

Nineteen Hay Lakes students in grades 8 through 11 attended the Horizons Leadership Conference held in New Norway last month. ONLINE PERMISSION FORMS
We have many field trips and other events that are coming up so we thought it might be a good reminder to send out a reminder on where to go and what to do for permission forms.
- On the school website, under "Quick Links" you can find the "Online Payments/Ordering" link.
- Once you log in, choose the form that you want to fill out.
- Many forms require you to agree to paying the fee by checking the box.
- Once you've completed the form, you need to go to the cart and check out, which includes paying the fee to complete the form.
SCHOOL FEES AND ATHLETIC FEES
Parents are asked to check out the online payment site to see if their are any new fees for options courses that have been updated, and any outstanding fees from the beginning of the year.
The fees for our basketball seasons were also added, so we would ask parents to ensure that those are paid as soon as possible. As well, there are still some unpaid fees from our volleyball season.
A reminder to parents that all school fees are paid through the online payment site. As a school, we attempt to keep our fees for students as manageable as possible for families. If you would like more information about these fees, you can either contact Mr. MacKenzie or look at the School Fee Schedule on our website for more information.
LOST AND FOUND
Please check out the Lost and Found areas in the school for items that belong to your child/children. All items that are not claimed by the middle of June will be donated.
TRANSPORTATION REGISTRATION
The transportation registration deadline is June 24. Registrations received after June 24 will still be processed; however, they will only be reviewed once all on-time registrations have been completed. Due to the volume of requests, late registrations may experience a delay in route and bus assignment.
To help ensure transportation is in place for the start of the school year, please complete your registration by June 24.
