First Grade Explores Newton’s 3 Laws First Grade Explores Newton’s 3 Laws

zoom_out_map
In First grade the students are exploring Newton’s 3 Laws of Physics. Our first experiment was around the idea that a force is used to put an object in motion. We compared different size balls. The force that we applied was our own air blown through a straw. We discovered that the lighter the balls the further they went. Our next experiment is setting up and completing a scientific experiment. We will be measuring the bounciness of different types of balls.

St. J Visit St. J Visit

By Ivy Scott, Krystian Maxfield, & Owen Rapin

Today Melissa Murphy, a St. J representative, came to talk to us about the St. Johnsbury Academy.

In the beginning Melissa showed us a video of the St. J campus so we could learn about the buildings like the Dining Hall and the Arts Center.

She gave us an information packet including papers about the plethora of class and club options available. There is even a student-led restaurant and mechanical jobs that take students off campus. She told us about the dorm rooms and houses, and the exchange students who live there. According to Melissa, almost one fourth of the students attending the Academy are from other countries, and diversity is very important to staff and people attending.

We learned that there are class trips to places like Japan, Paris, London, Germany, and Ghana.

There are also many sports there such as swim-team, basketball, football, and soccer.

At the end she gave us St.J gifts like a phone holder and a sticker.

Walden students have many options of where to go for high school, so it is very important for them to hear from different schools and make an educated decision on where they are going. The seventh graders were able to listen to the presentation and ask questions along with the eighth graders, which will give them even more time to decide.
