Dear SCSD Families and Community Members,

Thank you for helping us launch the school year with such joy and energy! With just four weeks in, our educators and learners are already hard at work.

San Carlos School District enrollment continues to grow, now reaching 2,975 students. With the full implementation of Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK), we’ve welcomed an additional grade level - 270 four-year-olds who will now spend the next ten years learning and growing in SCSD. Teachers have created warm, inviting classrooms where our youngest learners can thrive through play-based learning, building a strong foundation for future success.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Back-to-School Nights across our campuses. Whether you were exploring classrooms, getting to know teachers, or following a full middle school schedule, the record attendance at these events reflected your deep commitment to supporting our schools. Your presence reinforces the strong partnership we share in helping every child succeed.

Every year, I spend the first few weeks joining our school leaders in visiting classrooms. I am continually inspired by the way our teachers nurture relationships and create a true sense of belonging. We know that when students feel connected and cared for, the conditions are right for meaningful learning—and the results are clear. By multiple measures, our students continue to grow academically while benefiting from our whole-child approach to education.

You play an equally vital role in this success. By making daily attendance a priority, you help ensure continuity in learning, strong relationships, and good habits that last a lifetime. Since the start of school, our attendance rate has been 97.64%. What you may not know is that average daily attendance (ADA) directly impacts our budget: funding is based not on total enrollment but on attendance. Simply put, every day students are in school, we are better resourced to keep our promise of providing high-quality learning experiences for all.

Here’s to a year filled with growth, learning, and community. Thank you for your trust and partnership in the education of our children.

Onward!

Jennifer
