Start of School Reminders
Week of August 23
Start of School Reminders - Week of August 23
Upcoming Events
- Monday, August 24, is the first day of school.
- School is not in session on Monday, September 7, due to Labor Day.
- Floating Meet the Teacher Night is September 10, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The JHS AIG Annual Review Night will also be held that evening at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
- The PTSA will meet on September 14, at 6:00 p.m., in the media center. All are welcome to attend.
- Our Homecoming Dance is September 19. The dance is for Jordan students only; outside guests are not permitted. Additional details are forthcoming.
First Five Days of School
- Jordan will operate on the 30-Minute Activity Period Bell Schedule for the first five days of school.
- On Days 1 and 2, "A Lunch” students should report directly to Period 2 and will be dismissed for lunch from Period 2.
- Students will receive new network passwords on Tuesday during their advisory period.
Chromebook Distribution
- Chromebook distribution will resume on Monday, August 24. During the first week of school, students can pick up their Chromebook between 8:45 a.m. and 9:10 a.m., during their assigned lunch, or after school until 5:00 p.m.
Please be sure to allow at least a 24-hour processing time for technology fee payments or waiver request submissions.
Returning students who returned a charger last year will receive the same charger this year. There are no additional chargers at this time.
Students who have an outstanding device still assigned to them will not receive a second device.
Students are allowed to bring their own laptop for use at school under the Durham Public Schools "Bring Your Own Technology Initiative" Board Policy.
Student Schedules
- School counselors are continuing to process schedule change requests submitted through the Schedule Change Request Form, which closes on Sunday, August 23. Students should not report to Student Services to check on the status of a request. Students should only meet with a counselor regarding a schedule change if the counselor has emailed them and asked them to come to Student Services.
If your child has recently enrolled and does not yet have a schedule, please go the Class Selection Information page and make sure the appropriate documents have been submitted.
Student Cellphone Use
- Last school year, North Carolina law required students to keep cellphones and other wireless communication devices turned off and stored away during instructional time.
- Students may not use these devices for calls, text messages, social media, or other activities while instruction is taking place.
- Devices may be used during non-instructional times.
No Food Delivery
Food delivery for students during the school day is strictly prohibited due to consistent interruptions of instruction, theft of orders, and increased safety concerns (i.e., DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub, Papa Johns, Jimmy Johns, etc.). Delivery drivers will be turned away upon entering the campus. Students and families must refrain from ordering food for delivery to students. Jordan High School is not responsible or liable for lost funds when orders are canceled.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
- Students are able to enter the building at 8:45 a.m. since school starts at 9:15 a.m.
- Car riders should be dropped off at the traffic circle at the back of the school from the outer lane only. The inner lane is reserved for through traffic. Parents/caregivers should not use community venues such as Hope Valley Baptist Church and CVS, for drop-off and pick-up.
- The front lot is reserved for bus drop-off and the drop-off of students in the Exceptional Children’s program who receive special transportation. Any other family seeking to drop-off their child at the front of the school will be redirected to the traffic circle at the rear of the school. Student drivers have an assigned space in the student parking lots at the back of the school.
- At dismissal, car riders should be picked up at the traffic circle at the back of the school. Families cannot sign out their child “early” after 3:45 p.m.; after 3:45, students will need to wait for dismissal. Families are reminded that they will need to present an ID to check out their child.
