HarringtonHappeningsNovember 2

Dear Harrington Families, Dear Harrington Families,

Happy November, Harrington families! We had a fun filled end to October, with our HPTO Trunk or Treat and our Costumes for Kindness event, all the students worked hard the past month settling in deeper into their routines. This coming month we’re leaning into responsibility. As the weather cools and the holiday season is upon us, thank you for partnering with us to help every child feel safe, known, and challenged.

November Snapshot

  • Nov 3: Pick-up Dismissal System changed to DashPass
  • Nov 4: Full Day Professional Development Day
  • Nov 5: HPTO Meeting, 6:30 in Library
  • Nov 7: Veteran’s Day Assembly for Veterans and students, we’re honored to recognize those who have served. Classrooms will engage in age-appropriate activities, and we will host a whole school assembly recognizing the Veteran’s in our community.
  • Nov 11: Veterans Day — school is not in session, recognize and thank a Veteran on that
  • Nov 17- 21: Student Council Coin War - Student Council is hosting a Coin War this week! Bring in your spare change to help families in need in our community.
  • Nov 19: Half Day - Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Nov 26–28: Thanksgiving Break — no school (classes resume Mon, Dec 1)

Attendance Matters

Every day counts. Missing just 2 days a month can add up to serious learning gaps. If your child is sick, please report the absence to the main office. When possible, schedule appointments outside school hours.

Health & Wellness

  • Cool Weather Gear: Label coats, hats, and gloves. We go outside for recess unless it’s extremely cold or unsafe.
👨‍👩‍👧 Working Together: Home-School Connections here are some ways you can support your child at home:
  • Establish consistent routines for bedtime, and reading

  • Ask about their day using open-ended questions like, “What was something that made you smile today?”

  • Check backpacks or folders regularly for important papers or teacher notes.

  • Stay in touch via ClassDojo, email or phone call.

Together, we make a powerful team!

Thank you again for your partnership. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Warm regards,

Rob and Karen

DashPass DashPass

Please ensure you download the DashPass App and sign up as a pick up contact for your student. I would suggest even if your student is a bus rider, it would be beneficial to have the app set up just in case. We have 264 families that have not activated the app, we have sent out invites this morning.

If you have any concerns, or issues with the app, please contact support@dashpass.net. The reply time is pretty quick.

Screenings are conducted annually by Chelmsford Public Schools in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines. Harrington Elementary will be conducting its annual screenings on November 20th and 21st. During the week of November 3rd, we will begin performing height and weight measurements.

The screenings will be as follows:

  • Hearing: Grades K, 1, 2, and 3

  • Height/Weight: Grades 1 and 4

  • Vision with Stereopsis: Grades 1, 2, and 3

  • Vision Acuity: Grade 4

*Kindergarten: Upon entering kindergarten, or within 30 days of the start of school, parents/guardians must provide documentation from a vision screening conducted within the past 12 months, indicating that their child has passed.

If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, please remind them to bring or wear them to school. If your child does not pass the vision and/or hearing screening, you will be notified, and they will need to have a follow-up examination with a healthcare provider.

Parents may submit a written request to exclude their child from participating in school screenings. Please notify the Nurse’s Office in writing if you do not want your child to participate.

Thank you for your cooperation!
