Highlights From Our Week
- Thank you to everyone who joined us at Isom's and sent in Fall Mix items! A very special thanks to Collins, Grayson, and Ian for bringing in such fun surprises for the class this week. The kids had an absolute blast crafting their Spookley Pumpkins, reading and making Creepy Carrots, mixing up their 'witches brew,' and completing our pumpkin investigation!
Project-Based Learning (PBL): We are studying biodiversity! We continued building our 3D ecosystem.
A Peek at the Upcoming Week:
ELA (Literacy):
Letter Sounds: We will focus on Dd & Ii
Sight Words
2nd Quarter Sight Words: like, am, be see, at - This week we will cover the sight words: we, he, it, if
1st Quarter Sight Words: a, the, I, to, and, was, for, you, is, of
Home Practice Tip: As our list grows, keeping flashcards in your student’s Practice Bag is a great way to practice daily. Check the attached sheet below to learn about Heart Words vs. Flash Words.
Math Focus: 3d Shapes: cone, sphere, cube, & cylinder
Practice Ideas
- Counting: Our 2nd Quarter math goal is for students to accurately count all the way to 50! You can support this at home by listening to your child count aloud—keep an ear out to make sure they aren't skipping any numbers along the way.
- Top-Down Formation: Practice writing numbers 0 through 10. Remind your child: Always start at the top!
- Letter Flashcards: Make quick flashcards for Aa through Zz. See if your child can identify each letter and practice writing uppercase and lowercase letters using proper formation! Next, see if your child can tell you the sound for each letter. Click here for a great resource video for letter sounds.
- Sight Word Flyswatter: Write your sight words on sticky notes and spread them out on a table or wall. Call out a word and have your child "swat" or tap the matching card!
📝 Practice Bags
How It Works:
Keep It in the Backpack: When not in use, please keep the Practice Bag inside your child’s backpack so we can add new materials as needed.
Daily Practice: Please take a few minutes each day to practice writing first names and reviewing weekly sight words (listed above in the ELA section). Please place an EXPO Marker/eraser in your child's bag so they can continue to practice on the sheets that are in plastic sleeves. See the info below regarding ideas for fine motor practice.
Letter/Name Writing Tips:
Always start all letters at the top.
Capitalize only the first letter.
Keep all remaining letters lowercase.
Consistent daily practice helps build strong foundational writing skills!
Thank you for partnering with us!
