Several years ago, Southern State Community College received grant funds from The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE)/Governor DeWine through his Investing in Ohio’s Children and Families initiative, recognizing the challenges faced by those individuals who have ever been in foster or kinship care (living with relatives other than their parents).
They still have funds remaining, so I wanted to assist in helping spread the word about this opportunity.
These dollars will provide financial support for eligible individuals to complete a short-term certificate program (designed to take less than one year) that may provide the skills and knowledge to achieve their dreams.
Grant funding of up to $2,000 per individual is available to complete a short-term certificate from Southern State Community College (see attached flyer) including:
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Computer Science certifications
- Microsoft Office Specialist
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification
- The Police Academy (Basic Peace Officer Training Academy)
If you would qualify, or are aware of anyone who has ever been in foster or kinship care at some point in their life (prior to turning 18 years old) and may be interested in a short-term certification in one of these programs, please contact Robin Tholen (info below).

US 50/SR 132 Intersections Phase III Improvements Detour
In coordination with the Clermont County Transportation Improvement District (CCTID), relative to the specific project, it is determined that a road closure is necessary at US 50 and SR 132 South, as it is impractical to construct a temporary highway, culvert, or bridge. The closure will be managed by the CCTID and aims to enhance safety and efficiency at the US 50 and SR 132/N. Broadway Street intersections within the Owensville Village limits.
The closure is located between US 50 and Short Street along SR 132. The road will be closed to through traffic from Wednesday, August 21, 2024 through Friday, October 21, 2024. The length of the detour to/from Batavia is approximately 6.6 miles, and the length of the detour to/from Williamsburg is approximately 10.0 miles.
The Office of the Clermont County Engineer shall notify the Communication Center and other affected agencies. All advanced warning and detour signs will be erected and maintained for this project. The contractor will maintain the detour signs. Attached are the recommended detours.
