What a Great Start, Sunset Nation!
What an incredible first three days of school! It has been so much fun having our students back on campus and seeing the energy, smiles and excitement throughout Sunset. Our classrooms are already buzzing, routines are taking shape and it feels great to have our Sunset Ohana back together.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make our first week so special. Grounded Coffee, Bubbs Bagels and our amazing Sunset PTO took great care of our staff and helped us kick off the year feeling supported and appreciated. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a generous community behind us.
Thank you as well to our families for your patience and positivity as we settle back into school routines. Three days down and we are off to a fantastic start!
Have a wonderful weekend, Sunset Nation!

Brand new"ish" news...
Back to School Night~ Thursday 8/20!
We are excited to welcome our Sunset parents and guardians to Back to School Night this Thursday! This is an opportunity to visit your child's classroom, meet their teacher and hear about the routines, expectations, curriculum and exciting things planned for the year.
Back to School Night Schedule
Grades 3–5: 6:00–6:25 PM
TK–Grade 2: 6:35–7:00 PM
A quick reminder that Back to School Night is an adult-only event. Please do not plan to bring your child with you. This allows our teachers to focus their time on sharing important information and answering questions with our parents and guardians.
We appreciate your help and understanding, and we look forward to seeing everyone Thursday night!
See you at Sunset!
•Picture Day~ September 17! Get those smiles ready, Sunset Nation! Picture Day is Wednesday, September 17. (See attached flier) Students will have their individual school pictures taken during the school day. Mark your calendars and get ready to say cheese!
•The Four Agreements... Not Just for the Adults~ This last week, I shared The Four Agreements, based on the work of author Don Miguel Ruiz, with our Sunset staff. While our conversation focused on how we work together as adults, I kept thinking about how valuable these simple ideas can be for all of us, including our students and families.
The Four Agreements are:
Be Impeccable With Your Word
Use your words with kindness and purpose. What we say to and about others matters.
Don't Take Anything Personally
Not everything someone says or does is about us. Learning to pause before reacting can change an entire interaction.
Don't Make Assumptions
Ask questions. Seek to understand. So many misunderstandings happen because we fill in the blanks without knowing the whole story.
Always Do Your Best
Our "best" may look different from one day to the next, and that's okay. What matters is continuing to show up, work hard and grow.
I love these because they aren't another school program or set of rules. They are simple reminders about how we can treat one another and ourselves. Imagine the impact if our adults and students worked to speak kindly, assume less, take things less personally and simply do their best.
We certainly won't get all four right every day. I know I won't. But they're worth practicing.
I encourage you to talk about them with your children at home. Ask them which agreement they think is easiest for them and which one might be the hardest. I think you might have a pretty great conversation.
Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to build the kind of culture we want for our entire Sunset Ohana.
The Four Agreements are from Don Miguel Ruiz's book, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom.
•Want to Volunteer in a classroom? ~ If you are planning to volunteer, you will need to complete the Keenan mandated reporter training. (CA Senate Bill SB 848 went into effect in July.) Please apply (or re-apply if you volunteered last year) through Raptor. You have to reapply every year. If you were fingerprinted last year, you DO NOT need to get fingerprinted again. Brooke, our Office Specialist, (bway@lvjusd.org) will be clearing volunteers ASAP. Please check out the website for updates on getting cleared to volunteer.

While you are allowed and welcome on campus, we ask that you be cognizant of teachers time and student behavior while we work to instill a culture of kindness and integrity. While we value you and want you to know you are a vital part of our community and are welcome here, we are still asking that you help your child take steps to becoming independent as they find their own way to class as they enter campus.
It is exciting to see Kindergartners walk to class, hang up their backpacks, grab what they need and head into class...all on their own. Trust me, it will happen in time.
Student LVJUSD Gmail Accounts
In accordance with security guidance, IT has updated student passwords to 9-digits. That means students with 8-digit student IDs will need to add a leading zero and students with 7-digit student IDs will need to add two leading zeros to be able to log in. Students with 9-digit student IDs or who had previously changed their password to a personal password were not affected.
If students need help, they can get help from their teachers when school starts.
