Weekly Highlights
Vote for Julie Stout for America's Favorite teacher. Deadline for round 2 is tonight at 10 p.m.!
Glengary Elementary second grade teacher, Julie Stout, is in the running for America’s Favorite Teacher presented by Reader’s Digest.
A public vote will determine the Top 5 teachers, which closes on Thursday, April 25, at 10 p.m. You are allowed to vote for free once every 24 hours.
“The biggest part of being an educator is forming long lasting relationships with each student and seeing them grow as a learner,” said Stout on her favorite part of being an educator. “I would say the most memorable teaching experience is when all my students came to my wedding.”
The winner of America’s Favorite Teacher will be featured in Reader’s Digest, win a trip to Hawaii, and take home a $25,000 grand prize.
If selected, Stout said she will use the prize money to help her son pay for his first year of college in the fall.
You can vote for Mrs. Stout here.
Walled Lake Performance Ensemble caps its season at the WGI World Championships
The Walled Lake Performance Ensemble returned from the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, Ohio finishing as the 15th best team in the nation.
The ensemble is made up of the Walled Lake Percussion and Color Guard programs, which includes students from all three Walled Lake Consolidated Schools’ high schools. Together, they shined on the world stage competing against the best in the high division, Scholastic World Class. No other team from the state of Michigan qualified for the finals.
The Walled Lake Performance Ensemble won its 14th-straight state championship this year and 15th state title overall.
Color guard captain, Kylie Seabridge, took over the district’s Instagram story on Thursday for the prelims. She gave us all access look at a day at the WGI World Championships. You can view her takeover on our Instagram page by clicking ‘WLPE @ Worlds’ under the Highlights section.
Two Walled Lake Central students nominated for prestigious Sutton Foster Awards
Walled Lake Central’s Tatiana Goffee and J.J. Rochon have been nominated for the 2024 Sutton Foster Awards for their performances in the Vikings’ rendition of The Drowsy Chaperone.
Goffee, who played Janet Van De Graaff, and Rochon, who played the Man in the Chair, were both recognized for Outstanding Performer in a Leading Role. In fact, Sutton Foster herself also played Van De Graaff when The Drowsy Chaperone debuted on Broadway in New York City in May of 2006.
“We are elated that two of our most hard-working students are being recognized for their efforts in our spring show, The Drowsy Chaperone,” said Central music director, Olivia Bloomer. “Both students went into this show season with one goal in mind: To put on the best show possible for our community. This award nomination is just icing on the cake for the both of them, and is very well deserved.”
Goffee and Rochon will join Walled Lake Northern’s Emily Arabo and Truman Columbus, as well as Michigan’s other nominees for two weekends at Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing, where they will continue to develop their theatre skills in workshops led by industry professionals. At the conclusion of the workshops in May, they will take part in the Sutton Foster Awards Showcase at the Wharton Center on June 1 at 6:30 p.m. During that performance, judges will select Michigan’s two Outstanding Performer in a Leading Role winners. Those two winners will earn a $1,000 cash prize and fly to New York City to compete for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards on June 24 at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre.
Congratulations to our 2024 Earth Day poster contest winners!

District News
Board votes to move forward with bond proposal on May 7
During the February 2 Board of Education meeting, the Board of Education voted unanimously to move forward with a $250 million bond election on May 7, 2024.
The 2024 bond proposal is focused on student safety, educational opportunities, technology, and facilities; the millage rates associated with this proposal will provide a tax decrease for residents. Over the past two decades, our community has supported bond proposals in 2019, 2013, and 2004. As a result of this past investment, the school district and our students have been able to thrive.
A list of the 2024 bond projects, by school, will be published on the District’s website, as well as the bond language, frequently asked questions, videos, and other information. To help inform our community, the District will host a series of informational bond meetings over the next several months. Meeting dates, locations, and times will also be on the bond webpage.
Staff Shout Out Nomination
In an effort to celebrate our staff, the WLCSD Community Relations department requests that families fill out the form below to nominate staff who are rock stars in their classrooms and school communities.
A sample of what these shout outs will look like on social media and in our district newsletters is on the right.
