The busiest time of the year is well and truly in full swing at Bellevue!
The teachers and leaders are finishing up their own records of their professional growth and development, we are reviewing the progress made on plans for the year and identifying the next steps for the Annual Plan for 2026.
At the same time student’s assessments are being completed to celebrate their progress, inform our collective focus for teaching and learning into 2026 and report achievements and next steps to families via our online reporting, Bellevue Poutama and the upcoming three way conferences.
On top of this, last week saw the migration of all our school devices onto the Network for Learning Secure Access network, which provides greater security and visibility of our school wifi network.
This Friday we hope to see some of you for our Fun Run - more information about this can be found on Seesaw - and next week our Year 6s are off to Brookfields camp for their ‘last hurrah’ so there is plenty going on!
Three Way Conferences - bookings open now
We are looking forward to talking with our families over the evenings of Wednesday 3 December (3.15 - 8.15pm) and Thursday 4 December (3.15 - 6.15pm).
To book a time to speak with your child’s teacher please follow this link to School Interviews look for the ‘Make a Booking’ button top right, and enter the code wyb3c.
End of Year Report PDF and 2026 Class Placement Information
The end of year information is carefully timed to align with school events.
A ‘cheat sheet’ on how to download a PDF of your child’s reporting for 2026 will come home via Seesaw during the week of the Three Way Conferences (1-5 December). All reporting posts except the poutama (the blue stairway) will be uploaded to Seesaw before Monday 1 December. We encourage you to view these so that you are able to refer to this during the three way conferences on the 3rd and 4th of December should you wish. The Bellevue Poutama will be posted to your child’s Seesaw page following your conversation with the teacher at the three way conference.
On Friday 12 December you will receive your child’s class placement for 2026 and their stationery list - these will also be on our website. This is also the day that the students are visiting their new classes/teachers. If any students are not returning to Bellevue next year, please tell the office or your child's current teacher as soon as possible.
Annual Plan 2025 - Your Feedback
Our Annual Plan for 2025 is HERE.
To ‘measure’ how we have gone against our goals (and to inform our forward planning) we asked for feedback from our students, staff and community on the goals directly related to them. This will be used to inform our planning for 2026.
Thank you to the 50 families who took the time to share their thoughts with us through the digital form. This information was cross referenced with the feedback gathered at other events through the year (Matariki, parent information sessions, etc) in an effort to capture what was important from all those who shared their thoughts.
The results of the 2026 community survey are HERE
Some of the feedback received was classroom specific. We would like to remind you that, should you have any concerns or queries that are focused on your own child’s classroom, the first port of call is the classroom teacher. Following this, if the issue remains unresolved, we encourage you to contact the Deputy Principal or Hub Coach for the area of the school your child is in.
Transition - What To Expect For Next Year
Every year is different for our tamariki and kaiako at Bellevue School. With student led learning as one of the foundations of our curriculum no two years are ever the same. At the beginning of the year, teachers and students take time to get to know each other - their strengths, interests, goals and aspirations as well as the challenges they will work to overcome. This information informs the planning of the teaching and learning, which responds to the needs of the learners.
In 2026, we are delighted that our teaching team remains stable again, although some will be working with us in a different capacity. Some of our teachers, who are used to teaching across several levels of the curriculum no matter which year group they work with, will be moving into teaching in another year level.
The organisation of the school for 2026 is outlined in the image below.
You will note that the Rimu/Tōtara Hub has one Year 4/5 composite class. This is due to the numbers in this area of the school. Because our Year 4 and Year 5 student cohorts are quite similar sizes, with not enough students to form two fully funded classes at either Year 4 or Year 5, we are required to consider a composite whānau class at this level for 2026. We will be in touch directly with the families of the children in this composite class closer to the end of the term with further information about this and an opportunity to discuss this further.
Every year the school organisation is planned with student needs (both academic and social emotional) as the first priority. If you have concerns about how your child will settle into their new area of the school, we ask that you give our teachers time to settle the students and get to know them in the first instance. We have a robust transition process for all our learners with additional needs which involves detailed information being passed on to next year's teachers about what works for them as learners (and as human beings!). In addition to this, we encourage you to take up the opportunity to book a 1:1 meeting, either at our Meet the Teacher / Whānau Picnic event on Friday 30 January (more information to come), or at any time throughout the year, to talk with your child's whānau teacher.
International Teachers’ Day
On Friday 31 October we celebrated (belatedly) International Teachers Day! One of our wonderful team organised a beautiful morning tea, a waiata from our students and handmade cards which were deeply appreciated by the teachers - there were lots of heartfelt hugs you can see in the photos below!
Who Are The Bellevue Board?
The new Bellevue Board now has a photo on our website Board page so you can connect the faces to the names of the hardworking volunteers who give up their time to make all the important decisions ‘behind the scenes’ at Bellevue! Check out THIS PAGE for more information about the Board including all the latest reports.
Reminders Only -
Fun Run event on Friday 14 November - Information is HERE
A reminder with reporting all online now that Seesaw post captions can be translated. If a note, caption, comment, announcement, or message is written in a language that is different from the language of a family's device, a 'Translate with Google' option appears below the post. If you are a family who would find this useful and need some assistance, please get in touch with our e-Learning lead teacher nic@bellevue-newlands.school.nz, or with your child's whānau class teacher.
A reminder about the Three Way Conferences: These meetings, together with the Reading, Writing and Mathematics posts, replace our end of year written report, so we encourage all families to attend. The purpose of these meetings is:
- For families to hear from/talk with the whānau teacher directly, honestly and in plain language about their child’s progress both academically and socially/emotionally.
- To provide a foundation for school and whānau to work as a partnership to support each student to develop as an active, connected, life-long learner.
- This face to face opportunity is focused on giving families the overall picture of their child’s progress / achievement at the end of year in key curriculum areas, rather than the detail around a ‘moment in time’ demonstration of their learning as you will have seen in their Seesaw posts.
- This is also an opportunity for families to ask questions or share information about anything specific in relation to their child’s academic or social/emotional progress.
For more information about what to expect from these meeting please follow THIS LINK.
If your child’s attendance is below 90%, in line with our procedures, it is our responsibility to remind you of this. Your child’s teacher will provide you with information about this and a letter outlining the impact of reduced attendance over time.

Bellevue School ICAS Results 2025
About the ICAS Assessments
International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is a suite of competitions designed specifically for primary and secondary students. ICAS are conducted annually in Australia and in over 20 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Pacific countries, and America by The University of New South Wales (UNSW) Global Educational Assessment Australia.
ICAS Assessments are designed to recognise and reward academic excellence. Students are asked to demonstrate a deeper, integrated, and thorough level of learning.
The assessments are challenging and provide an opportunity, particularly for students who are more academically orientated, to gain a measure of their achievement in an external assessment situation.
At Bellevue, the ICAS Assessments are offered to students who wish to challenge themselves in Years 4-6. All students who take part receive a certificate for participation. We commend them for their risk taking and confidence. This year the exciting results for those Bellevue students achieving in the top 50% across all schools and countries are shown below:

Parent Webinar: What teens really say about being online
Join Karla Sanders as she shares insights from her recent roadshow with almost 200 rangatahi around the motu, facilitating youth workshops to better understand what young people are doing online.
Too often, there is an assumption that all teens are using the same platforms in the same ways, or that their experiences are predictable based on gender or age. The roadshow was designed to test this and to surface a more complex and accurate picture of how young people actually spend their time online.
Karla will share key findings from the roadshow, and there will be time for Q&A.

Wellington North Primary Schools Citizenship Award
Each year, Bellevue School nominates a Year 6 student to receive the Wellington North Primary Schools Citizenship Award. These awards are sponsored by the Johnsonville Rotary Club.
Congratulations to Maddison Smith, our Citizenship Award recipient for 2025!
Kind, positive, and inclusive, Maddison brings out the best in others and is always willing to help around the school. With determination and a growth mindset, she tackles challenges in both learning and leadership. Maddison has contributed to our school in many areas, including Student Council, Librarian, Kapa Haka, Road Patrol, Peer Mediation, PALs, and Netball. Leading by example with integrity and kindness, she is a true role model, and her peers overwhelmingly recognised her for this award. We are so proud of her achievements and can’t wait to see her continue to shine at Intermediate next year!
On Friday 7 November, Maddison received her award at a special ceremony attended by Wellington Mayor Andrew Little and other City Councillors, along with students selected by schools from across the North Wellington area. The event celebrated Maddison’s consistent demonstration of the Bellevue School values: Empathy, Integrity, Creativity, and Resilience.
Mā te huruhuru, ka rere te manu! Maddison, through your dedication, effort, and commitment, you have soared to achieve this well-deserved award.
Pack the Bus!
The Student Council are joining with the City Mission and The Breeze again this year to think of others less fortunate at Christmas through Pack the Bus, supporting Wellington City Mission.
A bus with Christmas music and characters will arrive at school and students will have the opportunity to pack the bus with Christmas items.
This year the bus comes to Bellevue on Monday 24 November @ 11.10AM
We encourage our students and learning community to practise empathy and manaakitanga by donating a little something to help children and whānau less fortunate so that their families can have a more enjoyable festive season.
Please note:
No opened or expired goods
No used toys
The Student Council invites you to send along items to place under the tree in your child’s hub at school. If you wish your child to place the item your family/they have donated on the bus, please put their name clearly on this gift but please do not wrap the gift (a request from the organisers). Please note Christmas trees will be up in each Hub from the beginning of Week 5.
Thank you in advance from the School Council, The Breeze and The City Mission for thinking of others and practising empathy, aroha and compassion for those less fortunate.
Measles
Measles is highly contagious and serious – about 1 in 3 people may need hospital care. It spreads when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes.
- Measles is circulating and is very contagious. There is now measles in Northland, Auckland, Manawatu, Nelson and Wellington, and we expect further cases across New Zealand.
- Watch out for symptoms – fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes, and a blotchy rash:
Measles – Health New Zealand
- Anyone with measles symptoms must stay at home and should seek urgent advice by ringing their doctor or Healthline on 0800 611 116.
- Anyone who is closely exposed to a measles case must stay at home. Heath New Zealand will provide individuals with advice on a case-by-case basis (including when they can leave quarantine at home).
- Health New Zealand is actively working with the schools that currently have measles cases.
- People are considered immune to measles after having 2 doses of a measles vaccine from 12 months or older, or if you have had measles before. For more information on measles immunity visit the Health NZ website. Measles immunity – Health New Zealand
Encourage families and whānau to check their own and their child/childrens’ immunisation status through My Health Record:
Anyone born between 1969-2004 may have only received one vaccine dose and might not be fully protected. It’s safe to get extra doses. A free vaccine can be booked online or via the vaccination helpline on 0800 28 29 26.
