Food in the Cafeteria Food in the Cafeteria

A Friendly Reminder

We want to provide a quick reminder about outside food in our cafeteria.

  • Cold Lunches: Families are always welcome to send cold lunches with their child. If your child’s classroom has a specific allergy restriction (shared in a note from our school nurse), please continue to honor those guidelines to help keep everyone safe.
  • When Choosing School Lunch: If your child is eating school-provided breakfast or lunch, please do not send additional outside food or beverages (such as soda, large bags of chips, or candy). These items are difficult to monitor, often get shared (which we cannot allow for safety reasons), and don’t align with our school’s wellness goals.
  • Chips, Treats, and Candy: Students who bring a cold lunch may include these items as part of their meal, but they should not make up the entire lunch. We also ask that students enjoy only their own food and not share with others at their table.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our lunchroom a safe and healthy place for all students!

Grief Group Information

You may already know that the district’s partnership with the Growing Through Grief program concluded at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Counselors from this program supported students through their grieving process and provided valuable care and resources to so many families and we are very grateful for their expertise and meaningful collaboration. We are also aware of an increase in the need for services like the group experiences they provided. To help meet those needs and to support our students who may be experiencing grief, we will be offering our own Oak View Grief Group that will be starting during the month of October. The group(s) will be co-facilitated by our school counselor and our school social worker and will be held bi-monthly for the 2025-2026 school year.

Who is eligible for the group?

· Any student who has experienced the death of a significant person in their life: parent, sibling, grandparent, friend, or anyone else with whom the student was close.

· The death could have occurred at any time – recently or years ago. (As children mature cognitively, they sometimes revisit the loss and show signs of early grief again).

If you have any questions or concerns or are interested in getting your student(s) involved in this group, please contact Ms. Peterson at PetersonK@district279.org

Warm regards,

Ms. Peterson & Ms. Hahn-Merges
