It's SO exciting to be back as your child's principal, a role I served for the final weeks of last school year. I miss the smiling faces, high-fives, jokes, and stories!! Also- Definitely wishing Dr. Garfield success in her new role with RCSD.

I am grateful for the trusted leadership of Mr. Wilson as our assistant principal and the talented Ms. Ortiz as our building secretary. I also feel fortunate to have such a hard-working custodial team, under the direction of Mr. Collins, getting the school ready!!

Breakfast with Team 39

• Once a month, we will invite parents and caregivers to enjoy some coffee and donuts at the school and keep the lines of communication open.
• We want to learn more about what is working well for you and your children, as well as suggestions and creative ideas to provide the best possible educational experience.

Academic Priorities

• RSVP to our Meet Team 39 evening event to learn about our plan for learning at unprecedented levels! You'll hear about early childhood literacy, our new approach to writing, math discourse, and how we are going to foster creativity throughout the school day!

Instructional Coaches

• We have named School #39 Legends Ms. McKenzie, Mr. Valenti and Ms. Reininger as our coaches! They will be working alongside our talented teaching staff to implement our priorities with consistency and coherence. Learn more at our Meet Team 39 evening event!
• You'll also meet Mr. Ozzy Arroyo and the unique role he will bring to School #39 that aligns with our focus on personalized learning and creativity.

State of the Art Technology

• Every classroom is now equipped with a new, portable, 80-inch high-def interactive teaching station!!!
• Each scholar will receive his or her own Chromebook with all the updates!.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Team

• Led by our SEL coach, Ms. Reshawnda Simmons, we have assembled a Dream Team of educators that will bolster teaching and learning by supporting student behaviors, attendance, and resolving conflicts restoratively.
• We view the classroom as a sacred learning space but also know that our scholars face obstacles that they need help resolving in order to learn at high levels.
• Come to our Meet Team 39 evening event to learn more about this innovative approach and meet the rest of our SEL Team- which includes our parent liaison, counselor, social worker, psychologist, Center for Youth advocates, school security officer, and reflection room teacher assistant.
• This synergy among our social, emotional, behavioral, and academic teams will prove to be a game-changer in the school turn-around process.

Leader in Me

• Learn more about how the Leader In Me program will help our scholars learn valuable lessons that will foster their growth as thoughtful, caring, responsible young leaders!

Indoor Recess Facility

• Thanks to some generous community partners, we just received funding for a one-of-a-kind indoor recess facility so our scholars can socialize and play, even if the weather prohibits outdoor activities. Wait until you see it !!

Brain Breaks

• Learn how we are strategically using brain breaks in between our rigorous academic blocks so that scholars can fully exert their attention and brain power, knowing that they will have a break to relax, socialize, and gear up for the next engaging learning experience.
• Watch our performance data increase and classroom disruptions decrease when scholars are provided these needed movement breaks and social outlets.

!!!!! The Townson Throwdown !!!!!!

• Every other Friday morning, we are getting the whole school together to celebrate birthdays, perfect attendance, I-ready growth, books read and our "On a Roll" shout-outs.
• Mr. Clair has been practicing his dance moves... have your children? We'll end the Townson Throwdown with a dance competition. Best be ready if you're called out into the circle !!!

Social- Media will be off the hook

• Come to our Meet Team 39 evening event to learn how we are upping our social-media game so that parents and caregivers can see pictures and videos of all the exciting things taking place... including video of the Townson Throwdown Dance party (!!!)....

Field Trips

• We are in the process of securing funding for a wishlist of field trips we want our scholars to experience as part of an exciting, engaging curriculum!

AM Intramurals

• We want to provide an opportunity for scholars to burn off some energy before they begin their day... just need to work out the logistics.
• Are you starting to see how much we value physical activity, socialization & The Power of Play... and how that will support, not interfere, with our academic priorities.

A School Musical (???) (!!!)

• We have a musical in mind, but lots of moving parts to pull this off. But we have been brainstorming ways for our scholars to showcase their talents ... and hope to have an announcement coming soon!
