October Update October Update

Happy October Albert Lea Tigers! ALHS is coming off of a school-spirit filled week celebrating Homecoming 2024. It was a great week with a lot of cool dress-up days and well-attended home events. It is always a fantastic experience to see the level of participation in the different students groups around the building and it warms the heart to see us grow as a group of young adults and staff. It was even more impressive to see the great turnout for the parade--let's try to add to that experience next year and make it even bigger and better!

October brings us to the midpoint of our first semester of the school year. The traditional fall break is the halftime rest that many look forward to celebrating as the fall colors in Minnesota reach a peak. As has been done in previous years, staff will be working the Monday following the break to give a great run at the second half of the semester.

As you will see below, October is also College is Knowledge month. Our counseling staff has put together a lot of information that will prove to be helpful to students in all grade levels. We also recognize that not all students are college bound. We culminate October with a College and Career Fair that will benefit every student in the building. Thanks to our fantastic school counselors making these opportunities available for our students.

As we look forward to commencement in about 234 days, we will be starting to meet with our seniors to highlight the important steps to making graduation happen. The first senior meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 2 at 12:45 p.m. These are important meetings for all seniors, including those taking part in Diversified Work Experiences. If your student misses part of the day for work, they should make plans to attend these senior meetings. Students will be reminded in the days leading up to the meetings.

I hope you all have an amazing October and are able to enjoy some of the finest fall weather in the nation. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Chris Dibble, ALHS Principal

Parent and Student Surveys Coming Soon Parent and Student Surveys Coming Soon

In the next week, all students and families will be receiving two important surveys through email. These surveys are designed to assist the staff at Albert Lea High School in meeting the needs of our students and families. The more survey results we receive, the more accurate the data is and the more significant we can make our efforts to improve the school experience each and every day.

As a High Reliability School, we rely on feedback from our students, families and staff to adjust how we take on challenges. We appreciate the support of all stakeholders in our improvement effort. The surveys will be sent to all email accounts and Thursday, October 3 and close on Wednesday, October 16.

A group of parents and Principal Chris Dibble met for over 45 minutes at the Hammer Fieldhouse in early September. There was great conversation and many ideas were shared back and forth. The group will be meeting again at the end of October to continue discussion about the continued improvement and focus on students as we move forward. Following the October meeting, an organized report will be made available as part of this newsletter.
