A Message from Dr. Enrique, Assistant Principal

Dear St. Mary’s Families and Friends,

The School is full of excitement with the onset of Spring. Students are noticing these colorful signs of Spring in nature both on and off Campus: flowers are blooming, and tree buds are blossoming! Students are looking forward to spending more time outdoors while also working diligently on their end-of-year projects and learning fairs in our classrooms. We have many events planned for the final weeks of school, and I highly encourage you to pay very close attention to the Looking Ahead Section of the Newsletter. Consider printing this out to post at home in a common area for all family members to see daily. Please be on the lookout for emails from your child’s teacher(s) with more grade-level specific information surrounding these events, field trips, and experiences. If you prefer to subscribe to our Website Google Calendar, click here.

Lastly, I encourage you to take the time this week to slow down and spend time together as a family. Whether you cheer on runners for the Boston Marathon, read a book, take some time to visit a playground or museum, or go on a walk outdoors, use this upcoming April Break week to enjoy time together.

Girls Volleyball

The 5-8 Girls Volleyball Team had a great first game last weekend! The students played a very competitive game, going back and forth for the lead over three sets. The girls lost the final set 17-15, an incredibly close first game. We are so proud of the girls' sportsmanship, hard work, and team work that they showed ahead of time and during the game. They even received a special shoutout from the tournament's referee for their sportsmanship and S.T.A.R.S. spirit!

The team has it's next games on Sunday, April 26 at 12pm and 1pm, and we hope you will join us at Ursuline Academy to cheer them on in their tournament!

Middle School Leadership Seminar

Our Leadership Seminar for the entire Middle School cohort has had our S.T.A.R.S. hard at work strengthening one of the most important life skills: public speaking. Through guided practice and supportive feedback, I am so proud at how they all challenged themselves to step outside of their comfort zones, finding their voice and building confidence along the way. They focused on how to say certain things in certain ways. We considered tone, pacing, clarity, and audience awareness, in an effort to communicate effectively and with purpose! Knowing how to speak confidently is so very important.

There were plenty of lighthearted and funny moments along the way, as students tried out new approaches, took risks, and we all learned how not to take ourselves too seriously. This shared experience not only made the learning process enjoyable, but also helped build a strong sense of team among the group. It has been great watching them support one another, grow in confidence, and develop into thoughtful, articulate leaders.
