Mid-Year iReady Data Review
Teachers have been analyzing mid-year iReady data in reading and math. This helps us identify student strengths and areas where they need extra support. We appreciate your partnership in helping all students grow!
West High’s Light Up the Gym Night – February 4th
West High will be hosting Light Up the Gym Night on February 4th! This year’s event will be different from previous years. Students will receive free admission with a paid adult and will get a glow stick, bottle of water, and popcorn upon entry. Please note that staff from our school will not be supervising the event, and transportation will not be provided.
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a great place to learn and grow.
ATTENDANCE MESSAGE
Hello Loess Hills parents,
I want to take a minute to thank you for making attendance an important part of your child’s learning. Together we can all do our part to help establish good attendance habits for lifelong learning. During this season there have been challenges like illness, weather, surgeries, transportation issues and other family situations. Through all that, for our last semester we reached 95% attendance at Loess Hills Elementary! There is always room for improvement so please let us know how we can continue to support your students and your family with any attendance issues.
Thank you,
Pablo Quintanilla/ Attendance Specialist
3 School Attendance Facts
- Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade or be held back.
- By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
- 9th grade attendance can be a better predictor of drop out than 8th grade test scores.

Box Tops for Education
Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for Loess Hills. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date.
Box Tops - New Scanning Feature
Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.
If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for Loess Hills. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online.
Hy-Vee Receipts - Cash For Students Program
Eligible receipts for groceries, prescriptions, floral, photoshop, and catering are accepted.
(No fuel, gas, postal, money order, Western Union, lottery, Quest, Mid American, bottle refunds or gift card receipts will be accepted.)

Bullying and Harassment Free District
The District is committed to providing all students with a safe learning environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The District’s Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Hazing policy defines bullying and harassment as well as the procedures for reporting and investigating bullying or harassment complaints.
Bullying and harassment are defined as any electronic, written, verbal, or physical act or conduct toward a student which is based on any actual or perceived trait or characteristic of the student and which creates an objectively hostile school environment that meets one or more of the following conditions:
- Places the student in reasonable fear of harm to the student’s person or property.
- Has a substantially detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health.
- Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s academic performance.
- Has the effect of substantially interfering with the student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school.
If your student feels they are being bullied or harassed, encourage your student to visit with the student involved and tell them to stop. They should also tell a teacher, principal, or trusted adult at their school. An online discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing complaint form is also available on the District’s website and may be completed by the student, parent, or school employee.
Advocate for Our Schools
Parent volunteers are needed to join the District’s Grassroots Advocacy Committee. As a volunteer, you will receive email updates about important legislative events that could impact public education and be asked to contact our legislators to advocate for our schools.
