Lutherville Families,

It's been a great couple of weeks at Lutherville Lab!

We had a blast celebrating our students and staff's contributions to earning a 5-Star rating and climbing the ranks of elementary schools in the state of Maryland into the 93rd percentile! Shout out to Maija Talikka for providing the lovely 5-Star balloon displays for our lobby.

It was wonderful to welcome so many visitors into our school during American Education Week. Thank you to those who were able to visit and to those who have been able to support by visiting in person, conferencing with your child's teacher, and/or providing loving care for them at home. Your partnership is powerful and vital to our success.

We've also been celebrating our awesome Leopard readers working so hard in our Read-A-Thon! We are closing in on our community goal with a couple days of reading and donating remaining. The Read-A-Thon is one of our few major fundraisers to support a plethora of activities that makes Lutherville such a fun community to learn and grow in, so your support is deeply appreciated!

As we head into the holiday season, we want to continue our strong year with attendance at school that creates the opportunity for learning and student growth. We are at 96.26% for the year! Next week, we are in school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (with a 1:05pm dismissal) and then in school every week day December 1 through December 23rd (full day). We're looking forward to getting some important learning in each and every day, so keep those kiddos coming!

In partnership,

-Mr. McComb

We had a fun Spirit Week, with Mr. McComb here being a good sport and wearing the Star costume (gifted by the staff) with some friends in star and Leopard gear on Five Star Friday!

The second marking period is underway! Here are some important reminders for Team BCPS students and families as we approach the end of the calendar year.

Academics and Attendance
BCPS is committed to advancing academic progress for all. We encourage parents and caregivers to review the grade and attendance reports that are sent every Friday via Focus and Schoology and connect with your child’s school for any needed support. Consistent attendance is key to student success! Students are expected to attend all classes on time each day, actively participating in discussions and activities and completing assignments. BCPS encourages parents and caregivers to support their child in being Here for It! Our attendance initiative offers students, parents, and educators’ valuable resources, tools and tips to help decrease barriers to regular school attendance.

Cell Phones--Off and Away

The BCPS cell phone use and expectations plan for 2025-26 is in effect. Cell phone use is prohibited during the instructional day in all BCPS elementary and middle schools other than for school-sanctioned uses or times. Cell phones and school time don’t mix!

  • All students should have phones OFF and AWAY during instructional time.
  • Headphones/ear buds, smartwatches, or other similar wearable technology are prohibited unless used for a specific instructional purpose.
  • Students who need personal devices for medical needs MUST have this documented in a 504 Plan, Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or Individualized Health Classroom Plan. Students may ONLY use their phone for the stated purpose in the plan.

Cell phone use is restricted during the instructional day in all BCPS high schools and may be allowed for specific times or uses.

As a reminder, students and/or their families assume all risk and liability for damage, theft, or loss of personal technology. Additionally, recording students or staff with cell phones violates BCPS policy and students who use devices to record disruptions of any kind are subject to disciplinary action.

School Safety and Security

BCPS utilizes a multi-tiered approach for managing school safety and providing welcoming learning environments that foster positive student growth. School safety is a shared responsibility, and when we work together and commit to upholding our roles, we create safe and welcoming spaces where students can maximize learning and experience all that our schools have to offer. Dangerous and disruptive behaviors will not be tolerated in our schools or on our buses. Please take a moment to review outlined expectations and guidelines in the BCPS Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Read-A-Thon Final Push!

We’re heading into the final weekend of our Read-A-Thon, and we’d love your support!

If you haven’t had a chance to participate yet, please consider making a donation if you’re in a position to do so. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps move us closer to reaching our $10,000 fundraising goal before Read-A-Thon ends. A gift of support also shows our broader community that Lutherville Lab is a worthwhile investment and reinforces the incredible work happening in our school every day.

Donate today: https://givebutter.com/Q960J7

Reminders:

  • Paper reading logs can be submitted on Monday.
  • Electronic logs will also close on Monday. Submit using this link - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1sEeoK0Uej3T0HcJAgLbkhFp9SfzYDh9tl5iE1OvxKn8/edit?ts=6907f24e&pli=1

Your generosity directly supports our school, funding free family events like Lego Night, helping cover field trip costs so every student can attend, and providing additional classroom resources for teachers. These are just a few ways that your donation strengthens our community.

Thank you for considering a contribution and for everything you do to support our school community!
