Message From The Principal

Dear Yeager Middle School Families,

As we move into February, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued partnership and support. This month is an important time for reflection, growth, and renewed focus as we work together to support our students academically, socially, and emotionally.

February is a time when instruction is in full stride, and our teachers and students are working diligently to build skills and make progress toward end-of-year goals. Consistent attendance, strong engagement in class, and encouragement at home make a tremendous difference in student success, and we appreciate all that you do to reinforce the importance of learning.

This month also provides opportunities to celebrate Black History Month, recognize student achievements, and strengthen family-school connections through upcoming events and activities. We encourage you to stay connected by reviewing school communications, attending events when possible, and reaching out to us with questions or concerns.

Thank you for trusting Yeager Middle School with your children and for being active partners in their education. Together, we will continue to build a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Warm Regards,

Principal Bonner

February’s Academic Focus: EOG & Benchmark Preparation

In February, Yeager Middle School is intentionally focused on preparing students for upcoming benchmark assessments and End-of-Grade (EOG) testing. Instruction across all grade levels emphasizes standards-based learning, close reading, problem-solving, and the application of skills students will be expected to demonstrate on assessments.

Teachers are using formative assessments, data from classwork and benchmarks, and targeted instructional strategies to identify learning gaps and provide focused support. Students are also being encouraged to build stamina, confidence, and test-taking strategies during daily instruction.

Families can support this work by ensuring students attend school daily, encourage focused study time at home, and discuss academic goals with their child. Strong preparation now sets the foundation for success later in the spring.

Arriving On Time Matters

We have recently seen an increase in student tardies, and we want to partner with families to address the importance of students arriving to school on time each day.

Being on time ensures students do not miss critical instruction, announcements, assessments, or classroom routines that set the tone for learning. Tardiness can disrupt learning not only for the student who arrives late, but also for the entire class.

As we continue preparing for benchmarks and End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments, every minute of instructional time matters. We ask families to please make punctual arrival a priority by planning ahead, allowing extra travel time, and reinforcing expectations with students.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students start each day focused, prepared, and ready to learn.

Science in Every Space: A Night of Learning, Laughter, and Discovery at Yeager Middle School

Yeager Middle School was buzzing with excitement as families joined us for Science in Every Space: From Kitchen Counters to Earth’s Core, an engaging Family Science Night designed to show students that science truly happens everywhere.

Students and their families explored hands-on activities across all grade levels, using everyday and recycled materials to bring science concepts to life. From modeling tectonic plate movement and extracting real DNA from strawberries to building and racing balloon-powered cars, the night was filled with curiosity, collaboration, and lots of smiles.

Families worked side-by-side with students, asking questions, making discoveries, and experiencing science in a fun, meaningful way. Laughter echoed through the halls as students proudly demonstrated their learning and parents jumped right in alongside them.

We are incredibly grateful to our families for their continued support, our teachers for their creativity and dedication, and our students for bringing so much energy and enthusiasm to the evening. Science Night was a wonderful reminder that when families and schools partner together, learning becomes even more powerful.

Thank you, Yeager families, for making this event a huge success—we loved learning with you!

Yeager Middle School Students Selected for DCSS Honor Band

Yeager Middle School is proud to celebrate several of our talented student musicians who were selected to participate in the Douglas County School System (DCSS) Honor Band. This prestigious opportunity recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional musical skill, dedication, and commitment to their craft.

Selection for Honor Band is highly competitive. Students must prepare and perform challenging audition pieces, demonstrating advanced technique, musical accuracy, and strong work ethic. Being chosen places these students among the top middle school musicians across the district—an achievement worth celebrating.

During the Honor Band experience, students worked alongside peers from other DCSS schools under the direction of expert clinicians. They participated in intensive rehearsals and culminated their work with a powerful performance that showcased their growth, discipline, and musical excellence.

At Yeager Middle School, we believe the arts play a vital role in developing well-rounded students. Participation in programs like Honor Band builds confidence, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership—skills that extend far beyond the stage and into the classroom and future careers.

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing Yeager Middle School with excellence and professionalism. A special thank you goes to our band director for preparing and supporting our students throughout this process, and to our families for their continued encouragement and support.

🎺 Congratulations to our Yeager Middle School Honor Band musicians! 🎶
Your hard work and talent truly make us proud.
