Week of September 11th -

Hello SMS 6th Grade Families,

I hope you enjoyed our Summertime- Fall Florida weather last week. Hopefully, the pools have stayed open so you could cool off! It looks like Fall weather is approaching. I know I am looking forward to that! Camping season, camp fires, smores, and football games are always family fun activities.

Our 6th Grade Teams have been meeting with their students each week in a large team time. We open up the garage doors and everyone squeezes in to listen to the teachers talk about the week in review - including upcoming events, recognition of students for the Mustang of the Week, celebrate birthdays, and work on reminders of expected behaviors. It's so nice to see and listen to our student compliment each other when one is recognized or gets an award.

Below are some great books that capture the patriotism and courage that occured on and after September 11th. I asked Mrs. Smith, our Media Specialist, to put together a collection of books that helps our students understand the event that happened on September 11th. She has included the names of the books, as well as a quick summary as to what they are all about. We never will forget. Please encourage your child to take a look in the library if they have an interest in learning more about this day.

Thank you for sharing your student with our 6th Grade Team. We're having a great start to the new school year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. J. Peters
