Dear MUHS Community,

Wow, we made it to the end of Quarter 1! That went quickly. Teachers will wrap up their grading next week. If students are "not yet" passing their classes (earning a score of NY), they may be eligible to attend Proficiency Recovery on Saturday, November 7. Reach out to your child's teacher or to Chris Giorgio (cgiorgio@acsdvt.org) with questions about that opportunity.

Next Wednesday (11/4) is an early release day. We will follow our PM schedule with extended advisory. That means students enrolled in full tech afternoon programs at PAHCC will attend those programs from 8:45-10:45 AM (9:00-11:00 at North Campus). Students enrolled in afternoon pretech programs will attend those from 8:45-9:25 and arrive back at MUHS in time for block 4 at 9:30. This has been confusing in the past. Reach out if you have any questions!

Warmly,

Caitlin Steele, Principal

James Kiefer, Assistant Principal

Julie Pettis, Student Response Coordinator

Sean Farrell, Activities Director.

Advisory & Flex Reminders

Mondays & Thursdays: Advisory Is Required

  • All students must attend their scheduled advisory.

  • The only exception is for students with a signed permission slip excusing them from advisory. The office maintains the list of approved students.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays: Flex Days

  • All students should report to their scheduled advisory location.

  • Students must arrange to be flexed in advance, before the period begins.

  • Advisors should not write paper passes for students to go to another location during advisory. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances, such as meetings with the nurse, social worker, or counselor.

  • Grades 11–12: If students are in the building, they must attend advisory. Advisory is not a free period, even on Flex Days.

Thank you for helping us maintain consistency, accountability, and a supportive environment for all students! Following these guidelines greatly helps the front office maintain attendance.

Voter Registration Drive and Election Day Voting

Congratulations to all the MUHS students who registered to vote in our recent Voter Registration Drive! Don’t forget to vote any time between 7am and 7pm in your local community this Tuesday, November 3rd. Middlebury MUHS students will have the opportunity to walk to the Rec Gym with Mrs. Martin to vote during Lunch 2 on Tuesday. Reach out to her in D-104 with any questions!

Seeking Lego Donations

Mr. Slater’s T.I.G.R. Design class is looking for Lego building blocks. If you have any you would like to donate, please bring them to the front office.

MUHS is Hiring Paraprofessionals

We are actively recruiting paraprofessionals to fill critical support roles at MUHS. Check out the job posting and submit an application here. Questions? Contact James Kiefer at jkiefer@acsdvt.org.

Opportunities for Students Opportunities for Students

MUHS Rocketry

A group of students is going to experience the thrill of launching model rockets, experimenting with how high they can go, and is hoping to compete in the American Rocketry Challenge. Students are invited to join. To get more information and to get involved students should see Mr. Harrington (H002).

DRIVER EDUCATION

The first quarter in DE is ending. Students have been learning about the foundational aspects of driving from holding the steering wheel, to approaching and stopping appropriately at intersections, to recognizing signs, signals, and road markings. We have discussed the three required tasks all drivers need to complete in order to pass the DMV road test: The Hill-stop, The Intersection Turn-around, and Parallel Parking. Your child should have shared the instructions with you by now. Contact me if they haven’t.

If you see a bright Habanero Orange Chevy Bolt on the Roads with “Student Driver” signs on it, that’s us. Don’t do anything special, don’t stare, and just keep moving along as the students learn the right of way.

Happy and safe driving!

Fall Sports Postseason Update Fall Sports Postseason Update

Boys Golf

The boys' golf team had an outstanding season, qualifying as a team for the VPA Division II State Championships. Competing at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on October 8, the Tigers finished as the Division II runner-up. Rowdy and Reaney also earned the opportunity to compete in the New England Golf Championships at Mohegan Sun Resort in Connecticut on October 26. Congratulations on a great season!

Cross Country

Congratulations to both our boys' and girls' cross country teams on a successful postseason!

At the NVAC Championships on October 24, the girls finished first and the boys placed third in the Metro Small School Division, with several athletes recording personal-best times.

At the Division II State Championships at Thetford Academy, the girls' varsity team turned in an outstanding performance, finishing as the state runner-up! The girls also qualified for the New England Championships in Belfast, Maine, on November 14.

Congratulations to Rosie, Louisa, Annika, Mia, Meredith, Sedsel, and Eevie on a terrific season, and best of luck at New England's!

The boys' team also represented MUHS well at the Division II State Championships, finishing sixth overall. Congratulations to Jorgen, Jace, Beowulf, Erik, Welly, and George on a great season!

Girls Soccer

Congratulations to our #11-seeded girls' soccer team on an impressive first-round playoff victory over #6-seeded Montpelier. The Tigers advanced to the quarterfinals, where they traveled to face #3-seeded Springfield. In a closely contested game under the lights, Middlebury came up just short, falling 3-2. Congratulations to the team on a great season and a strong postseason run!

Boys Soccer

Our #11-seeded boys' soccer team opened the postseason with an exciting 2-1 overtime victory over #6-seeded Stratton Mountain School. The Tigers then traveled to face #3-seeded U-32 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Despite a strong effort in a competitive game, Middlebury fell 3-1. The final score doesn't fully reflect how closely contested the matchup was. Congratulations to the players and coaches on a great season!

Field Hockey

Our #7-seeded field hockey team traveled to #2-seeded Bellows Falls for a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday. The Tigers battled hard and represented Middlebury well throughout the season. Congratulations to the players and coaches for their commitment and hard work. We look forward to seeing what next season brings!

Girls Volleyball

Our #2-seeded girls' volleyball team continued its strong season with a 3-0 quarterfinal victory over #7-seeded Grace Christian School. The Tigers followed that performance with another exciting win, defeating #3-seeded Harwood in five sets in the Division II semifinals on Wednesday, October 28.

The Tigers now advance to the Division II State Championship, where they will face #1-seeded Enosburg Falls High School this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Michael's College. It will be a rematch of last year's championship game, and we wish the team the best of luck as they compete for their second state title!

Football

The 2026 Football Postseason starts tonight as our #6-seeded football team will travel to #3-seeded Mt. Anthony for a quarterfinal matchup. Good luck, Tigers!

Go Tigers! Go Tigers!
