Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear Hiteon Community,

As we move through the school year, we want to take a moment to highlight the importance of promoting healthy habits in our children's daily routines. In today’s world, children spend more time in front of screens than ever before, limiting their opportunities for movement and physical activity. Research shows that regular exercise benefits physical health and helps with focus and learning throughout the day.

We understand that mornings before school can be hectic, but incorporating some movement before the school day begins can make a big difference. Whether it's walking or biking to school or doing some simple exercises at home, encouraging your child to be active will help set them up for success both physically and mentally. Additionally, having at least 30 minutes of exercise helps students focus throughout the day.

With that in mind, we’re excited to share that October 9th is International Walk and Bike to School Day. We encourage families to participate by walking or biking to school on that day, and whenever possible throughout the year. Students who ride the bus on October 9th can walk around the building before beginning their day. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time outdoors, get some fresh air, and reduce screen time before the school day begins.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us create a healthy and active environment for our students. We look forward to seeing many of our students walking or biking to school on October 9th!

Kindness Counts Kindness Counts

If you grab a cup of coffee at Insomnia Coffee on SW teal Boulevard in Murrayhill , you'll get a little something extra from the students at Hiteon Elementary School. Students created kindness stickers that have been placed on your coffee cup to spread a little joy.

Join in the kindness! Snap a photo with you and your kindness sticker and DM it to us to share with the students.

Vision & Hearing Screenings Vision & Hearing Screenings

Vision screenings were held today at Hiteon for all grades. If parents/guardians, students, or teachers have a concern about a student’s ability to see or hear, a district nurse or health assistant will provide a screening and resources for follow up if needed. Students in the newcomer program will have access to a program-wide vision screening.

RegistrarSchool is starting soon! Here are four tips to help your student(s) look forward to attending school every day. Start the school year off right with on-time and consistent attendance!

📌 Set a regular bedtime and wake-up time a few weeks in advance.

📌 Make up silly songs about everyday routines: getting up, eating breakfast and going to school.

📌 Stoke anticipation. When you drive by the school, say “There’s YOUR school!”

📌 Visit with neighbors to see who’s attending the same school. It’s always fun to have a buddy.

Check out the video below to hear what some wise Hiteon students have to say about the importance of good attendance for Kindergarten students to establishes the foundation for relationship building and lifelong learning.

If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system over the summer and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.

Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
