Principal's Update

The district released the data from the Ohio report card for schools. At SHS we are very proud of our 5 star status. This is the 3rd year in a row that we received the highest rating that Ohio gives to schools. We are even more proud of the fact that we received amazing results in growth data. In the state there were roughly 3005 schools that received growth scores and for the past 3 years our growth at SHS was the 2nd best in the entire state. This means that when you compare state test scores across the core subjects our students grew from year to year more than all but one school in the state. That is a testament to our all of our employees at the high school and the focus on learning that we strive for, every single day. This is also a testament to our parents and guardians who support students and the school in so many ways. SHS has done so well, in no small part, due to the families of our students who echo the high expectations of achievement that we know our kids can meet and exceed.

At SHS this year we will be having our first conference day on Thursday October 2nd. That day we will have conferences from 11:30 am to 3 pm and then from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The conferences will be in the cafeteria and main gym with a first come first serve style. There are no sign ups for the conferences. If you can't get here on the 2nd we are also having conferences, in the same format, on Wednesday October 8th from 3:15pm to 6:15pm.

During your visit please stop by our Derby to get your gear and represent the Mustangs. The Derby is part of our MILE team which stands for Mustang Inclusive Learning Environment. Please support the students in this program by picking up your gear. The Derby is in the cafeteria.

Conferences are a great opportunity to talk to your child's teachers and learn more about what they are doing here at SHS. We are looking forward to seeing all of you on Thursday 10/2.

PSAT PREP CLASS

PSAT/NMSQT Seminar

for High-Performing Students

Wednesday, October 15, 2025

8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Strongsville High School

PSAT/NMSQT Seminar for High-Performing Students

This 4-hour seminar is geared exclusively for highly able junior-year students preparing for the PSAT/NMSQT. It focuses on the most challenging questions and problems that separate elite students from the rest of the pack. The seminar is recommended only for students who have reasonable aspirations to attain National Merit recognition (top 1 to 3%nationally) for their performance on this test. Our intention is to prepare students who otherwise most likely would

finish in the top 5% to 10% nationally for potential placement in this top group.

The seminar helps students understand the test structure, format, and adaptive component, as well as provides concrete test-taking and time management strategies to enable them to approach the test effectively. For the Reading & Writing portion of the test, we spend considerable time on how to address the most challenging questions in each of the four academic content domains and 10 skill sets students will encounter. We then delve into mathematics concepts surrounding problem shortcuts and tricks that high-end math students can comprehend and employ to speed through such problems on the test. Many of these types of problems appear on the PSAT/SAT to separate the most elite performers. Every student gets a reference workbook outlining the test structure and key strategies as well as a large collection of practice questions and answers from the College Board bank of difficult-grade questions.

Next Level Prep is a national leader in PSAT, SAT, & ACT preparation. We currently work with over 100 high schools here in Ohio alone & thousands of students (urban, suburban, & small town/rural) each year in states around the country. Our typical students see a 2.0 composite point increase on the ACT or an 80-point increase on the SAT after taking one of our seminars.

Our engaging instructors consistently score 94%-plus A ratings on student evaluations. So, students emerge justifiably confident—with decidedly less anxiety—about their prospects on the test.

To learn more about our seminars, access our brief, 3:32, informational video at

https://youtu.be/96iH4027ZgM or visit our website homepage https://nlpamerica.com.

Price is just $69 for Strongsville HS students.

SHS Fight Song

Sometimes I like to stop in different classrooms to see what is happening as our students learn and engage in their lessons.

I stopped by Mrs. Eicher's 7th period chorale class who prepped me for Friday night football with a great rendition of our fight song.

Respect Tour

Respect Tour 2 Electric Bugaloo is a program that teaches students what respect should look like in and around the high school community. Last year we delivered the first session to the freshman in the hopes of increasing respectful behavior and decreasing referrals. The aim of the second installment is to build on what they have already been taught and further increase respect to improve the school culture.
