Panther Families,

We are ready for school to begin. I am extremely excited to see students back in the building. Mr. Wolf, one of our Associate Principals, wears some amazing shoes that are Panther colors. I’ve joined the trend he started and added a pair of Panther colors of my own. I can’t wait to show them off to students.

I will be wearing my new kicks on Monday, August 31 when we welcome 9th graders (and other students new to the high school) for their first day and on Tuesday, September 1 when we welcome back all returning students.

I know many students are anxious to get their final schedules. We had planned to release them today, but schedules will now be available on Monday, August 24 prior to our open house. We have a few things we need to change, and we need a little more time to make that happen. I am very sorry to hold this up for students, and thank you for the understanding.

We hope to see as many students – and families – as possible at the open house on August 25, 3-7 p.m. Students will be able to walk their schedules, meet teachers, get their pictures taken, talk with activities and athletics, and see counselors for anything they may need for their schedule. We will have a food truck schedule for 3-5 p.m. in front of door 1 if you are interested in grabbing some food. We also will have cookies for sale to benefit our culinary program.

Please let us know if you have questions. I hope the end of the summer goes well for everyone. We are excited to see students and families soon.

Proud to be a Panther,

Megan Jahnke

Headphones: Now part of the school technology kit

Starting this year, headphones will be included with the technology provided to students. Each student receives an iPad, iPad case, charger and wired headphones. This fall, students in first grade, fifth grade and ninth grade will turn in their old iPads and get a new kit - including headphones.

Many students already have a school technology kit and will not be getting a new iPad this year. If your student already has headphones they prefer to use with their school iPad, they can continue to use those. Students may bring their headphones to school during Meet and Greet along with other school supplies.

Students who need headphones will receive a set of wired headphones at school after the school year begins.

For 9th grade families: iPad exchange at Open House on Aug. 25

Our incoming 9th grade students will be receiving new school-issued iPads during the Spring Lake Park High School open house event on Tuesday, August 25, 3-7 p.m. Please plan for this so your student's iPad is set up and ready to go for the new school year.

Bring your current school iPad, case, charger, and cord to Meet and Greet. If any data is needed off the current iPad prior to the replacement, please review the backup instructions. Students will turn in their old devices and pick up a new technology kit that includes an iPad, case, charger and wired headphones. If you cannot make the Meet and Greet, your student's iPad will be replaced once school starts.

If you need technology help, email the help desk at techsupport@district16.org or give us a call at 763-600-5555.

Health office updates for back to school

  • School medications: You are welcome and encouraged to bring in any necessary medications for your student to keep at school during next week's Meet and Greet. Our health office will be available to answer questions during this event. If you would like to drop off medications outside of Meet and Greet, please set up a time with our nurse, Jill Larson at 763-600-5104 or Donna Dyson at 763-600-5204.
  • Immunizations and vaccines: Now is the time to make sure your child is up to date on all recommended immunizations. Getting vaccinated is an important tool to keep our students safe and healthy while they are in school. See our website for more immunization information.
  • Peanut/nut aware classrooms: Spring Lake Park Schools implements peanut and nut-aware practices to protect students with severe allergies. Avoid sending snacks containing nuts or nut products and to ensure all snacks are pre-packaged for safety checks. Learn more.
  • Communicate illnesses: Update the school nurse if your child tests positive for a communicable illness such as flu, RSV (Respiratory Syncitial Virus), or COVID-19. The nurse will provide information on return to school. Keep your child home if they are sick.
  • Communication home: Our school nurse will call home in case of serious illness or injury, or if consultation with a parent/guardian is needed. Many times, students can return to class after a brief rest or treatment from the nurse.

Nutrition Services: School meal updates for a new year

  • Breakfast and lunch meals: Each student will continue to get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each day at school. View school lunch menus.
  • Purchase of additional food items: During lunch, students have the option to purchase additional food items (second milk, extra entree, bottled water, etc.) if they have funds in their account. You can add funds to a meal account through Campus Parent Portal, or by sending cash or check with your child or directly to your school. If you do not want your student to purchase additional items, please complete this form and email it to foodservice@district16.org.
  • Educational Benefits Application: Each year, we ask families to complete an Educational Benefits application. Many families are often surprised they qualify, and you could be eligible for many great benefits that help your student and our schools. Applications have arrived in family mailboxes. You can also learn more and apply online. Please note, if your family has already received an approval letter for the 2026-2027 school year, you do not need to re-apply for educational benefits.
