Parent Newsletter-July
Dear Students, Families, and Friends,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year at Seminole County Elementary School! Whether you are returning or joining us for the first time, we are excited to have you as part of the SCES family.
This year, we are continuing our theme of “Sharpen the Spear.” It reflects our commitment to daily growth—in knowledge, in character, and in determination. Just as a spear must be sharpened to reach its target, we believe every child has the potential to aim high and achieve great things through consistent effort, focus, and support.
At SCES, we are proud to offer a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where students are encouraged to take on challenges, celebrate successes, and become the very best version of themselves. Our dedicated teachers and staff are here to guide, motivate, and inspire each student every step of the way.
Families, your partnership is vital to our success. We encourage you to stay connected, stay involved, and help us make this school year an exceptional one.
Let’s embrace this new year with enthusiasm, purpose, and the shared goal to Sharpen the Spear—each and every day.
Go Indians!

IMPORTANT NEWS:
Changes for Back to School Procedures
- We welcome everyone to come out to Open House and the Back to School Scramble on Monday, August 3rd at 4:30. Use this time to share all information with your child's teacher, and take all Back to School photos!
- Due to parking and safety, no parents will be allowed to walk their child to their classroom on the first day of school. (See exceptions below)
- At 9:00 AM, parents of Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be allowed to walk their child to class for the first day. Parking for Pre-K will be in the McLeod Gymnasium parking lot.
- Pre-K and Kindergarten students who ride the bus to school on the first day will be welcome to their classroom upon arrival.
Water Bottles
- Please remember to send ONLY clear liquids in your child's water bottles.
Tardy or Leaving Early?
- School starts promptly at 8:00 AM. If your student arrives after 8:00, an adult is required to sign them into school. Infinite Campus requires a parent driver's license to sign in tardy students and to sign out students for early dismissal. Please have it with you when entering the office. Note: After 14 tardies or early dismissals, you will be placed on an attendance contract.
- Early dismissal ends daily at 2:30. After this time, students will be expected to follow their normal transportation schedule.
Attendance Policy
The Attendance Committee will meet monthly, and at least twice annually thereafter, to review attendance trends and intervention strategies.
Upon enrollment, Parents/Guardians receive the State Compulsory Law and County Attendance Policy (located in Student Handbook)
1-2 Unexcused absences: parent and student contact made by the teacher
3 Unexcused absences: parent contact via 3-day letter
5 Unexcused absences: parent contact via 5-day letter, and a home visit from a school social worker
6 Unexcused absences: parent contact via home visit from the Department of Juvenile Justice
7 Unexcused absences: Attendance Team meets and creates an attendance contract. A certified letter is mailed to the parents/guardians requesting a meeting to discuss and sign the contract. If the parent does not attend the Mandated Attendance Support Meeting and absences still accumulate, steps will proceed as follows.
8+ Unexcused absences (which breaks the attendance contract): parent contact via home visit from the school social worker with a recommendation for a complaint referral to be filed with the juvenile court system.
Further unexcused absences will result in continued referral to law enforcement
Any absences over 45 will result in a DFCS referral.
Cell Phones
Disciplinary Consequences:
1st offense: Device confiscation, parent contact & parent pick-up
2nd + offense: 1-5 days ISS; Parent pick-up
6th offense: OSS/Parent Notification/BIP
Electronic Device offenses, including those related to social media, threats, pornography, bullying, and other criminal acts, will result in an automatic referral to law enforcement and may result in out-of-school suspension (OSS) or a referral to a “Disciplinary Tribunal Hearing” for further disciplinary action, which could include expulsion from school.
