A Message From Principal Miller

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we are on the last school day of 2025. So many students have told me of their great plans over break: travel, family and many like me who are sticking around Seattle to enjoy the holidays at home. Whatever your plans are we hope you have an amazing break!

I want to again thank you all and our PTA, because of the fundraising we have a few great things happening soon! I already spoke about how your fundraising is helping us bring drama to all our students- more information about that coming in January. We have been busy scheduling our jump rope assembly with an award winning jumper! She will also be teaching classes to help students learn some fun tricks. The Seattle Science Center’s Science on Wheels will be here this spring with their traveling planetarium for all students to attend. Unfortunately, the Seattle Jazz group we usually have in February is not doing assemblies this year so we will see if we can get another musical group in for 2026.

It has been a busy week at Decatur with lots of year end work getting done, plus a few fun art projects, writing prompts and other activities. We have had some issues with the rain, our blacktop has been flooding, field was a lake that seagulls were enjoying and lots of rain. I want to remind you all that we still go out, although we do usually have other options for students if they want. If the temps were below freezing then we would have to check to see if the playground is too icy for students to be safe outside, then we might have to have an indoor recess to keep students safe, but so far, we haven’t had to have an indoor recess.

I want to remind you all that we are not sending computers home over break as the state did not approve our waiver for remote learning if inclement weather. We will make up any snow days at the end of the year.

Last reminder, today we get out at 2:25 p.m. and the staff will be leaving by 3:35 p.m. to begin our winter break. The office will be closed, and we will not be checking our emails during the break so that we can all spend time with our friends and families. On behalf of all of us at Decatur we hope you and your families have a wonderful winter break full of the things you love to do!
