November Notes from Dewey
It’s hard to believe we’re already in November! October flew by with so many fun moments—Jog-a-Thon, Fall Festival, and Student Government elections—thank you for your continued partnership in making Dewey such a vibrant place.
We’re rapidly approaching the end of Trimester 1 and parent-teacher conferences. Teachers are in the process of scheduling conference times now. Conferences are a dedicated opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, review progress, and discuss your child’s specific needs.
To support these meetings, all students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM the week of November 17–21.
Reminder: Next Monday and Tuesday are non-student days.
-
Monday, November 10: Teacher Work Day (no school for students)
-
Tuesday, November 11: Veterans Day (no school)
As a school, we are continuing our focus on building a positive and inclusive school community. This month, teachers and staff are engaging students in lessons and conversations around anti-bullying, kindness, and emotional regulation to help all students feel safe, respected, and supported. Together, we’re working to ensure Dewey remains a place where every child can learn and grow—academically, socially, and emotionally. Be on the lookout for more information and resources coming home soon about these important topics.
Our PFO has several upcoming events and fundraisers. Want to learn more or get involved? Join us at tonight’s PFO meeting at 6:00 PM, or stop by Thursday morning before school for a quick PFO recap/Q&A in the MP Room.
Thank you for your partnership!
Warm regards,
Sabrina Parsley, principal

Kids Only Shoppe- Donations Needed!
Friday, December 12th (during Santa’s Night from 5:00-8:00 PM), 6th grade students will be hosting the Kids Only Shoppe for Dewey’s TK-5th grade students. This is a fundraiser for 6th graders to earn money for their overnight science field trip to Westminster Woods in the spring.
What is the Kids Only Shoppe?
· We collect gently used items to resell.
· A “shoppe” is set up in a classroom and is open during Santa’s Night, with items priced for around $1-$10 each.
· The 6th grade students help TK-5th grade students shop for Christmas gifts for their family members.
· The 6th graders also help them wrap the gifts.
· No adults are allowed in the Kids Only Shoppe.
We need to collect stuff! Please drop your donations in the bins outside the office throughout November.
· Gently used items you don't want or need that still have life left
· Household items like frames and candles
· Toys and books (please nothing broken or missing parts)
· The more, the merrier...
· NO clothing or stuffed animals, please!
· Now. Send it in now.
· We are also in need of gift wrap! Paper, tissue, bags, and tape. These items do not have to be new, and all is appreciated!
· Thank you!

Parking Lot Update
Due to our growing staff population at Dewey, we are asking that families do not enter the parking lot until it opens at 8:45. You may drop off your students in front of the school before that time if they will be going to the MP room for breakfast. If you would like to walk your students in, we ask that you please park on the street. Thank you so much for your understanding!
Santa's Night- HELP NEEDED!
The PFO is in need of a person or two to be this year's Santa's Night Chairperson! What does this mean?
Santa's Night is an annual Dewey tradition where Santa visits our school and our students and families get to skip mall lines (and prices!) to see Santa, tell him their wishlist, and take photos. There are often other activities like holiday crafts, ornament making, cookie decorating, cocoa, games, and story time... but really, the only limit is your imagination. We need someone to oversee the event and then a committee of other volunteers will help with the details!
During Santa's Night, there's also another event happening on campus... the Kid's Only Shoppe! Another beloved Dewey tradition, this is the students' chance to shop for gifts for their family, and also support the 6th graders, as it is the biggest fundraiser for their science camp at Westminster Woods in the spring.
Santa's Night is scheduled for Friday, December 12th from 5-7pm, so we've gotta get working soon! If you, or even you and a friend or two, are interested and willing to take this on, please contact PFO ASAP so we are able to still have this fun event! Please email PFOHarryDewey@gmail.com if you would like to help!
