Big Win for Magnolia STEM Program
Congratulations to Mrs. Long, STEM teacher, for winning the CBS 42 One Class at a Time grant! Mrs. Long won $ 1,000 to be used in her classroom for purchasing additional robotics equipment.
In her grant proposal, Mrs. Long stated, "Robotics goes beyond coding; it fosters creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and perseverance—skills essential for success in the 21st century. With expanded robotics resources, I can tailor lessons to different skill levels and learning styles, supporting beginners and advanced students alike. This directly aligns with Alabama’s new standards, which emphasize understanding programming concepts, algorithms, and logical problem-solving. Investing in additional Vex 123 and Vex GO kits means that every student in our school will have equitable access to high-quality, standards-aligned STEM education.
Please watch Mrs. Long's full interview on the CBS 42 website!
Kindergarten students went back in time to celebrate the 50th day of school in true 1950s style. Dressed in poodle skirts, leather jackets, and cool shades, they filled the halls with smiles and school spirit.
The fun included a sock hop where students danced to classic ‘50s tunes and enjoyed a special treat—a Coke float! Teachers also tied in math standards focused on counting and number fluency. Students practiced counting to 50 by ones, fives, and tens, and explored what 50 looks like with hands-on activities.
It was a perfect mix of learning and fun as our kindergartners celebrated 50 amazing days of school!
A Storybook Day of Fun, Family and Fall Festivities at Paine Elementary
Paine Elementary celebrated a day of creativity and community with its annual Fall Festival fundraiser and Book Character Dress-Up Day. Students arrived dressed as their favorite storybook characters before families gathered for an afternoon of games, activities, and school spirit—all supporting Paine’s ongoing programs and initiatives.
TCS Paraprofessionals are Champions Behind Student Success
The Empowering Paraprofessionals professional development session was designed to celebrate, inspire, and strengthen the essential role Trussville City Schools paraprofessionals play in supporting students with disabilities. The session began with a focus on “the WHY”—reconnecting participants to the purpose and impact of their daily work in fostering student growth and independence.
Attendees viewed Rita Pierson’s TED Talk, “Every Kid Needs a Champion,” and reflected on what it means to be a champion for students, emphasizing the importance of relationships, encouragement, and persistence. The group also engaged with Liz Huntley’s “More Than a Bird,” drawing parallels between overcoming challenges and empowering students to do the same.
Special education teachers provided personal feedback and words of appreciation, highlighting the direct impact paraprofessionals have on classroom success and student outcomes. The session concluded with a message of gratitude from Dr. Martin, reinforcing that paraprofessionals are a cornerstone of the Trussville City Schools’ special education program and that their commitment truly makes a difference in the lives of students and families.
Severe Weather Scientists in Action at HTMS
Mr. Henry’s class recently wrapped up their Severe Weather Presentations, exploring the causes behind extreme weather events that impact Alabama. Students showcased their research and communication skills as they presented to administrators, curriculum coaches, Mush Mentors, and fellow classmates.
These presentations not only deepened students’ understanding of weather patterns and safety—but also gave them a real-world opportunity to teach others about the science behind storms in our state. We’re proud of their hard work and professionalism!

Cahaba’s third graders were thrilled to welcome Meteorologist Wes Wyatt for a special visit this week! He shared his expertise on the importance of being weather aware and understanding how weather impacts our daily lives.
Students were captivated as Mr. Wyatt showed photos of unique and powerful weather events from across Alabama and beyond. The highlight of the visit came when he broke out into songs from his original weather album, turning science into a fun, musical learning experience!
Our third graders left inspired and better prepared to stay safe and informed during all kinds of weather. Thank you, Mr. Wyatt, for bringing your enthusiasm and knowledge to Cahaba!
