Wit and Wisdom Update
Science Helps Bring Reading and Writing to Life!
Our teachers are building student knowledge by connecting learning to interesting real-world topics, especially in the area of science. Students read, write, talk, and think about science topics like animals, inventors, and natural events. They learn science content while building literacy skills. Students use what they read to ask questions, explore ideas, and explain their thinking.
With the help of District Science & Technology Specialist Rick Yonker, students in every grade also have opportunities to learn by doing. Hands-on activities and investigations help children think deeply, ask “how” and “why” questions, and apply what they are learning in meaningful ways. Reading and science work together to support learning in both subjects!
Using real-world science topics and hands-on learning helps:
Spark curiosity and engagement: Students are excited to read and write to learn more about the world around them.
Build critical thinking: Children practice explaining ideas, making connections, and using evidence.
Support all learners: Lessons include talking, visuals, reading, writing, and hands-on activities so every child has ways to learn and succeed.
These pictures are from first grade students in Robyn Erbes’ class as they explored animal adaptations in their unit on Creature Features.

Recess & Outdoor Breaks
Please be sure to send cold weather gear with students each day! Students will go outside for recess and/or break if temperature is above 0 degrees (actual temperature or wind chill temperature). Often temperature fluctuates throughout the day, so while we may not go out for recess, classrooms may go out for afternoon break.

All of these situations and more can be reported to the Meadowivew Office through our online attendance form! Attendance Tip!
Getting to school on time is just as important as being at school. Research shows that continued tardiness leads to poor attendance. Many of the most important parts of a student's day happen within the first 15 minutes. This is often when they have a time to socialize with their peers, orient themselves for the day, take care of necessary business, and connect with their teacher before the day starts. Never underestimate the power of the first 15 minutes of school!
End of Day Routine
Please make sure your child's teacher has an accurate, up-to-date plan for your child's dismissal at the end of the day.
When changes are needed, please communicate those changes with your child's teacher prior to the start of the school day. We cannot always guarantee teachers will see emails during the work day (as it depends on the activities they have planned with the students).
For EMERGENCY CHANGES, please communicate with the teacher and call the front office no later than 2pm. Changes to end of day routines are difficult for students and teachers. If at all possible please change YOUR routine instead of your students routine.
