End of the 23-24 School Year
Another great year!

Message from Dr. Smith
Celebration of Growth and Looking Forward
Dear Families,
What an incredible year it has been! As we close another chapter in our students' educational journey, I'm filled with pride reflecting on all we've accomplished together. Each new year brings unique challenges that continue to teach us valuable lessons, helping us grow stronger and better prepare our students for the future.
We had an absolutely wonderful time acknowledging our 8th-grade class on Wednesday, May 21, 2025! If you missed this special celebration, you can view it below. Our four outstanding student speakers—Ben, Lyra, Yara, and Nathan—delivered truly inspiring messages that showcased the remarkable young people they've become. We were also treated to beautiful performances from our wonderful Honor Choir, and The Band Central featuring Graham, Hudson, and Sam brought down the house with their incredible talent!
I still remember when our current 8th graders first walked through our doors for 6th grade orientation. Some arrived fearful of those "horrid middle school stories" they'd heard, while others came excited and ready to take on new challenges. Regardless of their feelings, we met them exactly where they were. Many first-time 6th-grade parents shared concerns about their younger students being around bigger 7th and 8th graders, not yet realizing that student sizes vary throughout all grades—some 6th graders tower over 8th graders!
Over time, we all learned that everything would be alright. Our then-6th graders, now confident 8th graders, are prepared for their transition to high school. Middle school isn't perfect, but it serves as an essential training ground where students learn to navigate our ever-changing world. Every day, we work with students to develop crucial life skills:
- Organization through AVID strategies that will serve them throughout their academic careers
- Conflict resolution using the Character Strong framework to build emotional intelligence
- Restorative practices that teach accountability and community building
We teach our students that while opportunities may come to some but not always to all, that's simply life. We won't all win the lottery, but we can all create plans to strive for success through dedicated self-education and personal growth.
Perhaps most importantly, we help students understand that parents, guardians, and caregivers won't always be there to hold their hands. They must start paying attention to what they want out of life because success isn't handed to anyone on a plate—it's earned through effort, perseverance, and smart choices.
I truly believe our 8th-grade students are ready for their high school journey, and we're deeply grateful to all the families who allowed us to be part of this transformative experience.
To our 6th and 7th grade families: We still have important work to do together! We're committed to achieving the same level of success, if not more, in the years to come.
As we move forward, we want to hear from you. If you have ideas and possible solutions for how we can build a stronger school community, please share your thoughts where they really matter by reaching out to the school directly. We're committed to true collaboration and want you to know that your voice matters tremendously.
We have a few announcements below, but the most important message is this: we hope you have a fantastic, restful, and joy-filled summer!
Thank you for an amazing year. Here's to continued growth, learning, and success together!
Warmly,
Dr. Smith
