Good evening, Trojan Families,

This is a message from your proud principal, Mrs. Kinard, and the school leaders at Ferndale Middle School. We strongly encourage you to access the digital version of this announcement, which is available on our school website and social media. It contains additional important information that you and your students need to know.

There will be no school on Monday, May 26th, in honor of Memorial Day.

We are quickly approaching the final stretch of the school year, and we want to ensure you are informed and prepared for the upcoming End-of-Grade (EOG) testing and important end-of-year events.

EOG Testing Schedule:

  • Monday, June 2 – ELA EOG for all students

  • Tuesday, June 3 – Math EOG and Math I EOC for 8th graders

  • Wednesday, June 4 – Science EOG for all 8th graders and Math I EOC for 7th grade Math I students

Please make sure your child arrives on time, well-rested, and ready to do their best each day.

EOG Retesting Consent:
A letter was recently sent home regarding EOG retesting consent. This is for students who may benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate proficiency. If you haven’t already, please return that letter as soon as possible so we can ensure every eligible student receives this valuable opportunity.

Reteaching & Retesting Dates:

  • June 5–10 – Students who qualify will participate in targeted reteaching and retesting sessions

End-of-Year Celebrations:

  • Friday, June 6 – 8th Grade Dance

  • Wednesday, June 11 – Last Day of School and our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

The end of the year is a busy and exciting time for our students and families. As the temperature rises and our academic work comes to a close for the year, we also tend to see more impulsive actions from our students. Please remind your child that communicating a threat has serious consequences, both at the school and law enforcement levels. We ask that everyone refrain from spreading rumors, and please only share information that you can personally verify. We take every threat seriously, and we appreciate your help to encourage students to think about the consequences of their behavior before they act.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students finish the year strong. We are proud of their hard work and determination!

GCS Immigration Response GCS Immigration Response

Every family should know that every child in Guilford County has the Constitutional right to attend school regardless of immigration status. The Guilford County Schools does not request or record information about a student’s immigration status. Federal and state laws protect student information from disclosure to others, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). GCS does not permit non-students, including ICE agents, access to GCS facilities unless they can produce a warrant signed by a federal judge. School administrators will not permit the disclosure of confidential student information without first consulting their attorney to make sure that the information has been properly subject to a federal judge’s warrant.

Families should consult community resources to learn their rights and additional information will be provided to help families access these resources.

MATH MOMENTUM

The Math Department has concluded teaching math content for each grade level and have spent this entire month reviewing and preparing scholars for the EOG.

EOG Prep sessions are starting to give all scholars the additional support they need to do well on the Math EOG.

Please join me in celebrating each Math teacher in their respective grade levels for their diligence, determination, dedication to ensure that all scholars excel.

There are also ways that math can be supported at home included in the schematic below.

Ms. Walker is doing an outstanding job teaching 6th Grade Math as well as Ms. Haines, the EC teacher.

Ms. Spears is doing a phenomenal job teaching 7th Grade Math as well as Ms. Haines, the EC teacher.

Ms. Clarke-Huie and Ms. Cole are doing a superb job teaching 8th Grade Grade as well as Ms. Garner, the EC teacher. Ms. Clarke-Huie is also teaching Math 1.

Ms. Haines is doing an exceptional job serving 6th and 7th Grade Math as well.

Because of the phenomenal work by the Math Department, FMS has consistenly scored above the GCS District average on Interim Assessments.

I'm extremely excited to see how well Ferndale Scholars perform on the Math EOG!
