FROM DOAN'S DESK....
Welcome back Yotes!
The beginning of the school year always brings a mix of both excitement and anxiety as we get ready for students. This year has the added layer of trying to finish up all the renovations that have been happening on campus.
We will be ready for Wednesday, August 13th (Freshman Orientation) and Thursday, August 14th (1st Day of Classes), but there may be some missing details as not all projects are finished.
We are excited to show off the improvements in our technical education spaces as much as we are for new carpet and paint in classrooms. It will be a great week of welcoming our students back and to get going on the 2025-26 school year!

2025-26 BELL SCHEDULE
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION-WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2025
What should you expect on your first day?
- You're going to meet a ton of new people including fellow 9th graders, some 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, and lots of awesome people who work at Monarch!
- You're going to have a chance to find your classrooms, go through your schedule, figure out how lunch works, and hopefully feel more confident and comfortable as a student at Monarch.
- Not much! All you need is an open mind and a positive attitude.
- In fact, you SHOULD NOT bring a backpack, school supplies, technology, CELL PHONES, band or orchestra instrument etc..
- School lunch is free for all students, but you need to know your BVSD student ID number. You are also free to bring a lunch from home if you want.
- A MoHi 360 leader should be getting in touch with you and your parents soon if they haven't already. They will be able to answer most of the questions you have.
- If they can't, or if you haven't heard from your 360 leader, look for the contact information for the 360 Coordinators at the bottom of this page and get in touch with them.
TRAFFIC
If you are returning to us, you are well aware that traffic flow into Monarch in the mornings can present a challenge. Traffic challenges are particularly acute during the first several weeks of school. Please remember, ALL of Campus Drive is 20 MPH. You can find a map of our traffic flow pattern here.
Parents should not drop off or pick up students in the staff parking lot.

Mark your calendars now for September 22-27 and our Homecoming week of events called “Monarch Mayhem”.
Last year we had a lot of fun putting forth our first attempt at "Mayhem" with schoolwide and community engagement through the traditions of homecoming. We want to elevate the experience for our students to make it more inclusive of our entire student body and our feeder schools in Louisville and Superior. Students, your leadership and involvement will be vital to Monarch’s school spirit going bigger and better than you have ever seen. Parents, we will be seeking out your active engagement and support for Monarch as we try and pull off something extraordinary.

SCHOOL MEALS ARE BACK-COME DINE WITH US!
Your MoHi lunch crew is excited to welcome students back for another year of delicious and nutritious meals! Here are a few important reminders:

Second entrees are available for purchase for $2.50.
Student ID Numbers = Faster Lines
Students must enter their six-digit student ID number at the register to check out. This number can be found in Infinite Campus.
Students, please memorize your ID number to help keep lines moving quickly!
Adding Funds for Extra Purchases
If your student wants a second entrée or a la carte items (like a side salad, fruit, or milk without a full entrée), they’ll need funds in their meal account.
Add money to your student's account here: BVSD Meal Account
Don’t have an account yet? Create one through School Cafe
Preloading funds helps reduce wait times and makes things easier for your student!

Here's what's cooking the first week of school:
FREE & REDUCED PROGRAM APPLICATIONS
The application for the Free & Reduced Price School Meal program for the 2025-26 school year is now open!
Breakfast and lunch at BVSD continue to be free in the coming school year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All program. Every BVSD student is entitled to breakfast and a hot lunch entree, which includes unlimited salad bar access each school day. Second entrees can be purchased when available with money from your student’s meal account.
IMPORTANT: Even though meals are free, we strongly encourage every family to apply for the Free and Reduced Price School Meal program; doing so might qualify your family for additional services and reduced fees, as well as impact funding for your school. Some families qualify for the program as a Direct Certification through the state because of their existing SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid benefits.
Families who qualified through Direct Cert should have already received a notification letter in your email. Qualified families need to fill out the form linked in the notification letter to share your status with your school to receive any additional benefits you qualify for. Additionally, you should have received a notification letter in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal Message Center Inbox.
If you do not qualify through DirectCert, for the 2025-2026 school year, we encourage you to fill out a Free & Reduced Price School Meal application (one application needed per household). More information and directions to apply are found here. If you have questions or need help with your application, please contact Lola Campos-Herzfeld at dolores.campos-herzf@bvsd.org.
A few important things to note:
- You must apply on a computer or Chromebook: The application cannot be completed on a mobile device. Please visit the BVSD Culinary Center if you need access to a computer. Online applications are strongly preferred, but paper applications are also available in the Culinary Center (hours & location to follow) or by special request from your school.
- Prior year qualification does not carry over to the current year: If you were approved for the 2024-25 Free & Reduced Price School Meal program, your status will only extend for a 30-day grace period. If we do not receive a new application by the end of that period (9/30/25), your child(ren)’s benefits will be terminated. Please keep in mind it can take up to 10 days to process a new application.
- The Free and Reduced Price School Meal program is not a part of the public charge: There are no immigration requirements to participate in the Free & Reduced Price School Meal program.
- Confirming your application status: If you fill out an online application and do not receive a response within three (3) weeks in your Parent Portal inbox in IC, contact Lola at BVSD Food Services (dolores.campos-herzf@bvsd.org) to help you find the status of your application. Do not assume that your student(s) qualified for the Free & Reduced Price School Meal program unless you receive a notification from the Food Services office for EACH of your students.
Applying for the Free & Reduced Price School Meal program is fast, easy, and secure. Even if you think you may not qualify, we encourage you to submit the form, especially if your financial situation has changed recently.
For questions or support with applying, contact Lola Campos at dolores.campos-herzf@bvsd.org. She is available for in-person support Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 3 PM at the Culinary Center (view map) at 6500 Arapahoe Rd Building C, Boulder, CO 80305.
Additional support will be available at the BVSD Enrollment Help Center on August 7, 8,11, & 12 from 9 AM-4 PM. It is located at the Southwest entrance of the BVSD Ed Center at 6500 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder, CO 80305.
COUNSELING
2025-26 STUDENT SCHEDULES
Students will be able to see their schedule in IC on Thursday, August 7th. We remain committed to providing students with a meaningful and engaging educational experience, but we must also be clear about the limitations these staffing challenges create. Specifically, we need student and parent understanding around:
Course schedules will be more constrained. Not all elective requests will be able to be honored. Some courses had to be cut completely, while others are at their max capacity with no room for additions.
Schedule change requests will be limited. Students should not anticipate changes when seeking preferences like a specific teacher, asking for a desired off period, or changing levels of a course. We have class sizes that are as high as 36-38 students in some classes, with no room to move students around because of preferences.
With these constraints in mind - counselors will NOT be available during Back to School Check-in. There will be a process for students to submit their requests for schedule changes to be reviewed.
The goals of the school to provide small class sizes and academic equity will be considered first and foremost. Because schedule changes create a ripple effect that impacts class size and student learning, counselors will only be changing schedules for specific academic purposes.
Valid reasons for a schedule change request include:
If a student did not get a core academic course on their schedule that was requested
If a student has not met the prerequisite to be in the current course
If a student needs a course in order to meet graduation requirements
If a student needs a course in order to meet college entrance requirements
Please note, counselors are not able to make changes to schedules that include period changes (including lunch), teacher changes, or adding classes.
**Paper copies of your schedule will not be available at check-in. Please use Infinite Campus to check your schedule.**
SCHEDULE ERRORS:
Students who have an error that needs to be corrected on their schedules that are released on August 7, will need to fill out a course correction form. Please see the counseling office for more information.
