Parent - Week of 9/2
Week of September 2
Joyful Adventure Awaits!
To our Strongsville students and their families,
I am super excited to introduce myself to you as the new Sixth Grade Principal at Strongsville Middle School. It’s a huge honor to be a part of this amazing district with such wonderful students, an extremely dedicated staff, and supportive community partnerships.
I have been passionate about middle school education for more than fifteen years, and before joining SMS, I worked as an assistant principal/assistant athletic director as well as middle school science teacher. Now, I am absolutely thrilled to work with you as a partner in education.
One of my top priorities is to continue creating a positive and supportive learning environment for everyone. I believe that all students deserve a high quality education, and students are best supported when the school, teachers, and parents/caregivers work in partnership. I am ALL IN to the principles of PRIDE (Prepared, Respectful, Inclusive, Determined, Engaged); it’s a fantastic way to promote positive behavior, inclusivity and make SMS even more incredible.
I’m eager to discover the unique spirit of Strongsville Middle School this year and beyond. My ultimate focus is on you, the students! Every one of you deserves a top-notch education that paves the way for lifelong success. I am here to support all on this journey by ensuring SMS provides a safe and inclusive environment where you can shine and make great choices.
Let's make this school year the best one yet!
Go Mustangs!

15th year in education
BS from Ashland University ’09; Master of Science in Geosciences from Mississippi State University ’19; Master of Science in Education Leadership from University of Cincinnati
I have two daughters (fourth and seventh grade), two stepdaughters (freshman and junior), and two dogs (Darwin, a black lab, and Descartes, a yellow lab)
I enjoy Orangetheory, running (5k races are my jam), Flair pens, exploring geologic wonders, and keeping houseplants alive
The best piece of advice I ever received was after a particularly difficult day when I was a middle schooler. My dad advised, "Remember how it felt to be vulnerable compared to those with power. Don't do that to people. Break the cycle."
Shout Out of the Week!
Applaud our seafaring standouts! The 'Shout Out of the Week' spotlights a student from each team who truly embodies our Model Mustang values!
Student Drop Off/Pick Up
One change that we have implemented this year is our procedure for picking students up early. When picking up your child from school for appointments, not feeling well, or other reasons;
- You will be required to park your car
- Enter the building
- Press the intercom and present your driver's license for identity verification
- Sign out your child on the cart in the vestibule
Dropping your child off at school does not require you to come into the building as they can sign themselves in.
We appreciate your support in keeping our students and building safe.
Blocksi - - Keep Tabs on Your Student's Online Journey
We use Blocksi to filter content and manage Chromebooks in our classrooms. You can use it to see where your student is spending their time online and set parental controls outside of the school day!

Erin's Law-Opt Out
Dear Parents of SMS Health Students:
Ohio’s 134th General Assembly recently enacted Senate Bill 288, which updated the prescribed curriculum for health education. It added requirements to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention, dating violence prevention and sexual violence prevention. The law includes requirements for student instruction, parent and legal guardian notification and training for school personnel. This law, also known as “Erin’s Law”, went into effect in January of 2023, with a mandate for Ohio school districts to implement these new requirements in grades K-12 during the 2024-2025 school year. More information about the requirements can be found here.
For middle school students, SB 288 requires that students in health classes receive developmentally appropriate instruction in dating violence prevention education and sexual violence prevention education, which must include instruction in recognizing dating violence warning signs and characteristics of healthy relationships in health classes.
Strongsville Middle School will begin teaching Speak Up - Empowered, to students enrolled in Health 6 and Health 8 during the 2024-2025 school year. School personnel selected this curriculum due to its age-appropriate content regarding abuse prevention and healthy relationships, as well as its approval from the Department of Education. Participating in the abuse prevention curriculum may help to create a greater awareness of the warning signs associated with unhealthy relationships and prevent abuse before it occurs. The content includes instruction on the following required components:
Personal safety and assault prevention
Dating violence prevention education
Sexual violence prevention education
Dating violence warning signs
Characteristics of a healthy relationship
