Journey On

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we catch excellence. Vince Lombardi ~ We should use our goal of perfection as a journey to bettering ourselves. Rather than focusing on the end game, focus on the journey. Enjoy the experience, the moments, & the trip you take as you chase perfection. This is what makes the journey worth taking.

On May 6th, the Excelsior Standard released the Mayor's Day of Prayer podcast produced with the Ministerial Alliance. It is beautifully done, you will just say, WOW! Celebrating work anniversaries this week: Camron White, Assistant Fire Chief, 21 years; Ross Rea, Recreation Program Supervisor, 3 years; Alexandria Barns, Recreation Coordinator Assistant - 2 years. Highlighting community leaders serving on the Board of Adjustment - Ambrose Buckman, Tray Harkins, Dr. Nick Houk, Rocky McLauglin, Dr. Kent Powell, & alternates Maynard Moore & Stephen Stubbs. Thank you for your leadership & good judgement in deciding matters of practical difficulties or hardships in applying zoning regulations.

Key Projects Updates

State Petition Audit Report released this week made six recommendations for improvements - Financial Condition - minimize losses & discontinue deficit budgeting in Airport & Golf Funds, ensure cost study of airport hangar rates & under-utilized Airport buildings are used effectively. Allocations & Restricted Funds - ensure administrative & indirect costs are allocated based on specific criteria & retain documentation to support allocations. Cash Handling Controls & Procedures - Implement adequate receipting controls & transmitting procedures, & ensure all non-monetary adjustments made at Golf are properly approved. Disbursements - ensure compliance with purchasing policy, require usage & fuel logs at Golf. Utilities - ensure penalties for late utility payments are received in utility funds & all non-monetary adjustments to utility accounts are properly approved. Sunshine Law - ensure closed meeting topics are appropriate & minutes are signed; create log of all Sunshine requests. It is hard to hear criticism, when you would much rather hear compliments. But, give it a second, & put the words received in perspective. How can I view this as a positive experience, a gift? If it were not so, there wouldn't be a quote about it. "Positive criticism is feedback given with the purpose to create growth & development. Negative criticism is intended to hurt & often to defame & to destroy." In response to the Audit Report we are taking several steps to address the recommendations offered.
