Dearest CHES Families,

WOW!!! What a week we had last week. It was busy and it was fun! THANK YOU so ,much for your support of our school and our scholars! Before we go any farther, important question...did you remember to set your clock back an hour on Sunday morning? This weekend is Day Light's Saving's Time and we are to FALL BACK an hour. We don't want students waiting for the bus or at the school too early!

This week is Benchmark testing for our students. Please be sure that they are well rested, properly fed and ready for testing! Check Class DOJO for specific days that classes will be testing.

We would like to give a shout out and huge "thank you" to our wonderful PTSA for sponsoring our Fall Festival (See video below). Students had a great time and we appreciate all the parent/family volunteers who either worked a station, gave out candy and/or decorated their car for Trunk or Treat! We sincerely appreciate you!

Until next week...

We are CHES and our cougars climb to new heights! 🐾

CHES Students Selected for the PGCPS All County Honors Orff Ensemble

We are thrilled to announce that several of our talented Capitol Heights Elementary School students have been selected to perform at the prestigious PGCPS All County Honors Orff Ensemble. Our very own music instructor, Mr. Pierre is the director!

This is a remarkable achievement for the following students:

  • Jamir Almazar
  • Edward Bright II
  • Josiah Edwards
  • Grace Emmel
  • Madison Ann Jackson
  • Victoria Logossou
  • Avery Porter
  • Erika Reaves
  • Dyllan Render
  • Danielle Singleton
  • Kenzie Tchagah
  • Estella Thomas
  • Kaliyah Thorpe.

As the CHES Community, we couldn't be prouder of the students and especially Mr. Pierre because the PGCPS All County Honors Ensembles are an integral part of our Music Enrichment Program and offer unique opportunities for selected participants to showcase their musical abilities. Being chosen for this ensemble is a testament to the hard work and dedication these students have put into their craft.

We strongly encourage our CHES Community to attend and support our talented students as they represent CHES on this grand stage. Let us celebrate their accomplishments together as a community and encourage them on their musical journey.

The performance is on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 7pm - Fairmont Height High School (The New Location in Columbia Park) Admission is Free.

Our Next Mandatory TAG Project

Information has been sent home concerning the next TAG Project -- our annual Write A Book Project. This year it is a bit difference as the students must turn in a first draft (hard copy rough draft) before they get the code for the Book Creator Library. We are taking into consideration that students do not have access to chromebooks at home, so time will be used at school to create the book. Having the book already created and just doing the final draft will help with the process.

Parent University Information Sessions:

Parents can find out more about the Project by attending one of the two Parent University Info Session:

Nov. 6th @ 12:30 - 1:30 via Zoom

Nov. 7th @ 5:00 - 6:00 via Zoom (****Time Change)

Please note the following important dates:

Nov. 1st - Parent Signature form due (please turn in if you haven't already!)

Nov. 22nd - First Draft Due

A Note from our CHES PTSA...

Double Good Fundraiser

A big congratulations to the top 3 sellers for the Double Good fundraiser: Leonora, Messiah, and Dyllan. This 4-day fundraiser brought in $3,097 for the PTSA. Amazing work! Thanks to our parents and students who participated- we are excited for all of the ways we can continue to support CHES with these funds. Keep an eye out for future programs, activities, and updates from the PTSA!

Thank You, Fall Festival Volunteers!

Thanks to all of the families who helped with last week’s Fall Festival! We appreciate everyone who donated candy, decorated their trunks for trunk-or-treating, and came to school to share in the fun! The students enjoyed a fun celebration with bounce houses, dancing, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, and PLENTY of candy.
