Hello Wildcat Families,

Happy Homecoming! I hope that I get to see many of you today at the homecoming parade.

This Wednesday, October 6 is count day. This is a day where the State of Michigan counts each and every one of our students to make sure that they are a Novi Wildcat. On Wednesday, please help your students join their Zoom meetings on time. Teachers will help students complete a short Schoology assessment in each of their subjects AND answer the question of the week. Due to Count Day, HS Students have advisory on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week.

There will be no school due to teacher professional development for all Novi Community Schools students on the following dates:

Friday, October 8 - No School for students K-6

Monday, October 11 - No School for students 7-12

Additionally, on Monday, October 11, from 3pm-7pm, pictures will occur at the ROAR center for all K-6 students and any 7-12 student who did not get their picture taken at registration.

Novi Virtual will have pictures at the ROAR center on October 11 from 3-7pm. This is for all K-6 Virtual students and for any 7-12 virtual student who did not have their picture taken at the Middle School or High School registration. We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to order the 2021-2022 Novi Virtual school shirt!

Orders are due by Friday, October 15! Please make sure to include you student's name and grade in the description field. It's the only way we can ensure that the shirt will get to your student. Shirts will be distributed during our November Materials Pick Up. Orders are optional and not required.

In a partnership between the Novi Public Library and the Novi Community School District, we are pleased to announce that signing your student up for a Novi Library Card is even easier! Check out this flyer for more details! You can start registering on October 4 and have your card waiting for you at the ROAR center for our November materials pickup.

This Friday, October 1, is Homecoming for everyone at Novi Community Schools. We hope that our Novi Virtual families join in the festivities.

Green and White Day: We hope students will wear their green and white when they join class on Friday.

Homecoming Parade: Starting at 5pm, families may watch from the sidewalks along Taft road between Parkview Elementary and Novi High School.

Homecoming Game: Starts at 7pm at Novi High School Stadium

Each month we will have a materials pick up for families. Not all students will have materials to pick up each month. In September we had materials for:

- All K-6 Students

- MS Students in Art

- HS Students in Algebra 1

Materials pick up will be at the ROAR Center, at 41500 Gardenbrook.

Those who could not pick up on September 22 can come to the ROAR center between 8:30am and 4:30pm.

Each Novi Virtual Family will need to sign a Virtual Consent Form. Many families turned this in at the September 2 materials pick up. If you did not submit it at that time, please print and sign this consent form below and email it to to Jacqueline Boboige at jacqueline.boboige@novik12.org.

Novi Community Schools is proud to provide virtual learning opportunities for our Novi students. Novi Virtual students are Novi students and therefore can participate in after school clubs and activities. The information below is featured in other district newsletters that families at those grade levels should also be receiving. We have linked those newsletters below. We will also highlight key information for virtual families in this section.

Our technology department has worked hard to ensure that students that are new to Novi, including Kindergarteners, now have emails and passwords.

Novi Virtual students needing to know their password can email Jackie Boboige at jacqueline.boboige@novik12.org.

Students will join their classes using ZOOM links that are available in Schoology, our learning management system.

Directions:

1. Go to novi.schoology.com
2. Login using your district email and password.
3. Click on your course (K-4 students should choose Learning Skills)
4. Click on the header of the course that contains the ZOOM link. (see example below)

Teachers have also shared their ZOOM links with families over email.

Grades K-4: 9:00 a.m. - 3:52 p.m.

The Novi Virtual day is made up of a combination of Live, On Demand, and Independent work time. You may see the visual above that outlines each of these learning modes. The independent work time gives families flexibility in their schedule. It lets students work at their own pace in their own space. Additionally, it allows students to have a screen break as needed. At the K-4 level, most of the core class instruction is done using LIVE instruction on Zoom. The K-4 specials have been designated as independent. This will allow your child to engage in the lessons during the time of day that works best for them. They will also be structured to allow choice for how students will engage in their specials learning. Students and Families can email their specials teachers if they have questions about how to access their online specials learning.

If a student has an IEP, the special education providers will reach out to individual families with information regarding their service schedules.

We will begin distribution on September 9th that will cover 5 days of breakfast and lunch for our virtual families. Per the MDE we are limited to supplying meals to virtual students on days that they would be in the classroom at school. Distribution will be located at Novi High School and the time will be Thursday from 1:30-2:30.

We know how important it is to get books in the hands of our students in order to help them grow as readers. We encourage every Novi Community Schools student to get a Novi Public Library card. September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. For more information click here.
