Dear SME Eagle Families,

This week, we celebrate National School Lunch Week and recognize the wonderful cafeteria staff who work hard each day to feed our students. We are so thankful for the care, hard work, and dedication our cafeteria team brings to our school. From preparing nutritious meals to greeting students with a smile, they play an important role in making our school a welcoming place for everyone.

Our cafeteria staff does so much more than serve meals. They help create a positive experience for our students and ensure that each child has the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and succeed. We appreciate their patience, kindness, and all the little things they do each day that make a big difference!

Please join us in thanking our amazing cafeteria staff for all they do for our Eagles. We are truly grateful to have such a wonderful team taking care of our students each day!

Thank you for feeding our Eagles and helping them soar!

Working Together to Keep Everyone Safe

At Six Mile Elementary, we believe it is important for school and families to work together to teach students appropriate ways to handle their feelings and resolve conflicts. During the first nine weeks of school, we documented 27 incidents of hitting, involving students hitting both other students and adults. This is a concerning behavior that we must work together to address.

We ask that you partner with your child’s teacher to reinforce the importance of keeping hands and feet to themselves, using words to express feelings, and treating others with kindness and respect. When school and home share consistent expectations, we can help students develop the skills they need to make positive choices. Thank you for working with us to ensure that Six Mile Elementary is a safe and welcoming place for everyone!

Pumpkin contest

On October 14, students can begin bringing in pumpkins for the Pumpkin Contest. Students must use an artificial pumpkin and decorate it based on a storybook character. These pumpkins will be displayed in the library. To vote for pumpkins, students can bring in cash or change for penny votes. The pumpkins that earn the most money will be awarded prizes from the PTO. We hope you will participate!

We are a NUT-SAFE school

Please remember that we are a nut-safe school. K4 parents, please do not send in treats that say "May contain nuts," due to a severe nut allergy. Some treat suggestions are Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and Kimberly's Bakeshoppe products. Please contact me by email (brittanycleveland@pickens.k12.sc.us) or phone (864-397-2407), if you have any questions. Thank you for understanding!

Best of the Nest

Each month our school focuses on a character trait for our students. Mrs. Orr goes into classrooms and teaches lessons to develop this trait. We also talk about it on the school news program.

This month our word is INTEGRITY. We will honor students that show this at our Best of the Nest party at the end of the month.
