Blood Drive - March 11
Our semi-annual blood drive will be happening Wednesday, March 11th. Each donor will have the opportunity to donate one pint of blood which can save up to three lives, whether it be patients of nearby hospitals or victims of unfortunate disasters. Community members, teachers, and students are able to donate. Seniors who donate twice in their senior year (or have an adult donate for them) are eligible for a honor cord from Carter blood care.
Must be at least 16 years old to give blood. Students under the age of 17 require parental consent.
Save time by completing your health questionnaire (QuickScreen) before arriving to the blood drive. QuickScreen must be completed on the day of your donation.
Contact Amanda Mosier at mosiera@friscoisd.org for info.
Click for FAQs: Guidelines/qualifications
Are There Any Risks or Side Effects?
Sometimes people who donate blood notice a few minor side effects including feeling faint, lightheaded, dizzy, etc. due to the blood and fluid taken. However, these symptoms usually resolve quickly as your body immediately begins working to replace the lost fluid and red blood cells. There are steps you can take to improve your donation experience.
Before donation:
Have a good night’s sleep the night before
Eat healthy foods (avoid fatty foods like hamburgers, fries, ice cream)
Drink EXTRA fluids in the days and morning leading up to your donation (drink an extra 16oz of water just before your appointment)
After donating it is important to:
Sit and rest for a few minutes
Drink lots of fluids
Avoid strenuous physical activity such as hard workouts, heavy lifting, or athletics/games for the rest of the day
Consume iron-rich foods (red meat, fish, poultry, beans, spinach, iron-fortified cereals, raisins, and more) to help your body replace the lost blood.
