Lutherville LabReportWhat's gone down & what's coming up at theleopards' lair.

November 5th, 2021

Hello Lutherville families,

Today marks the end of the first quarter of our school year. What a journey and what a joy to welcome your children into our school and work together to support their learning and social growth. It's hard to believe that first day was nearly 10 weeks ago!

In reflecting on where we are, I want to just note how grateful I am at the many ways we've come together over the first 9 weeks of the year. Thank you all for welcoming me with grace and kindness as we navigated this new normal with a new school leader -- it can be a challenging time to build trust and understanding and I am so appreciative of our community. Thank you to our incredible staff at "The Lab" for coming together to navigate new protocols, curriculums, schedules, and needs. Thank you to our parents -- our closest partners in serving your children and filling them with the love and care they need to learn. And thank you to our PTA for supporting our school in so many ways, and especially for providing two awesome opportunities for our community to be together with Food Truck Night and Build-A-Leopard -- such wonderful events.

Below, please find information related to another club getting rolling -- the Drama Club! Also, please find information on vaccination opportunities for elementary-age children and the need to complete a vaccination verification for volunteering at school moving forward.

With sincere gratitude and in partnership,

-Mr. McComb

COVID Vaccination Opportunities for 5-11 Year Olds

Please see the information below shared by the Office of Health Services:

Where can I get COVID vaccine for my 5-11 year old child?

· Check with your child’s pediatrician. If they have COVID vaccine, please register for an appointment with their office.

If your child’s pediatrician does not have COVID vaccine, please sign up for an appointment on the Baltimore County COVID Vaccine website. www. Coronavirus Vaccine Distribution (arcgis.com)

What if I only see a few appointments on the website?
Don’t worry. Additional clinics for the week of November 8 will be added to the website soon.

Where is Baltimore County offering COVID vaccines for 5-11 year olds?
Baltimore County is holding clinics at the following locations in the next week:

· White Marsh Mall in the old Sears store;

· Sollers Point Community Center;

· Randallstown Community Center;

· Lansdowne Elementary School.

How can I get more information?

· Talk with your child’s pediatrician about COVID vaccine; both the risks and benefits as well as ways to get an appointment.

· Call the Baltimore County COVID Hotline at 410-887-3816.

Drama Club -- DISNEY ON STAGE!

Mrs. Tunison will again be sponsoring this club and bring her experience performing in musicals and teaching music to help the students at Lutherville Lab put on their very own production!

This group will meet TUESDAYS BEFORE SCHOOL from 8:00-9:05AM throughout January, February, March. Morning rehearsals begin on Tuesday January 4 at 8:00AM prior to that we will have 3 lunch bunch rehearsals on 12/13, 12/17, and 12/20. This club will conclude with an evening performance of the Mini-Musical on Tuesday April 5 at 7:00PM. I am working to find a place we can hold our performances that works with BCPS covid policies. I am hoping maybe a high school auditorium.

For more information, please see the attached flier.

LL Volunteer Vaccination/Testing Program Compliance

As part of the ongoing efforts to verify vaccination status for adults working with BCPS students, Lutherville Laboratory volunteers are asked to verify their vaccination status through the BCPS Vaccination Verification Smart Sheet by November 15th.

Volunteers should select “volunteer” under position and then select the appropriate vaccination status.

  • If you are vaccinated, please upload an image of your COVID immunization card or you can locate your immunization records here: https://md.myir.net/
  • If you are not vaccinated or do not wish to disclose, you can select participating in weekly testing at a BCPS location through CIAN Diagnostics. Locations and schedules will be provided for individuals who select this pathway.

Because weekly testing creates an additional layer of monitoring and follow-up for our school staff, providing vaccination records is much preferred.

In total, new volunteers will need to complete the following steps:

-Volunteer Application
-Orientation (online)

-Health and Safety Mitigation Training (online)

-Vaccination Verification

Please complete these items and send certificates of completion to Ms. Lisa Dominick (ldominick@bcps.org) and Ms. Sasha Jackson (sjackson13@bcps.org) prior to the day you intend to begin volunteering. This affords us time to communicate on any discrepancies and also complete background checks with the Maryland Sex Offender Registry.

Thank you for doing your part in supporting our layered approach to keep students and staff safe and healthy.

American Education Week

BCPS to Celebrate 2021 American Education Week Virtually

November 15-19, 2021, is American Education Week and Baltimore County Public Schools is pleased to join in on this national celebration of public education that honors the many individuals who work to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education. Teachers, support staff, administrators, and others have had to completely reimagine how to provide instruction, supports, meals, and resources to students throughout the pandemic. We thank our Team BCPS heroes for their unwavering commitment to our students and families and we recognize your tireless efforts.

Like last year, our American Education Week celebration will be held virtually to ensure the safety of students and staff and reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19. Details about virtual systemwide and school-based celebrations for American Education Week will be shared with Team BCPS and families soon.
