PES Monthly Memo
October 2025 🎃
👷🚧Construction🚧👷🏻♀️
Mr. Carlson recently sent out information regarding street construction beginning October 2 that will significantly impact our building. On October 2, 6th Street between Division and High will be under construction, and will move to the block of 6th Street between Division and Reed beginning October 6. Pickups and drop offs for students will remain the same during the week of October 2nd, but will change beginning October 6th. Please see the attached letters from Mr. Carlson that will explain the details more thoroughly. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time.
October SEL Theme: Responsibility
This month, our PBIS focus is on Responsibility. Being responsible means making good choices, following through on commitments, and taking ownership of our actions. At school, this looks like coming to class prepared, completing work on time, taking care of materials, and treating others with respect. At home, responsibility might mean helping with chores, caring for personal belongings, and being honest about mistakes.
We encourage families to talk about responsibility together and celebrate moments when students show it in their daily routines. By practicing responsibility, we help build trust, independence, and a stronger school community.
Family Reading Night
October 15, 2025
Please join us for a fun-filled evening with books! We will have activities, prizes, and refreshments. We hope to see you there! Please see the attached flyer for details.
Staff G.O.A.T Awards
This year, we started recognizing our staff members who are going above and beyond to make a difference at our school. The following staff members were recognized in the month of September:
Vicki Green (paraprofessional): Vicki is easy going and willingly helps out wherever/whenever needed. She readily jumps in and always shows up. She is a fantastic person, coworker, and employee.
Julie Cook (school nurse): As our nurse, Mrs. Cook is busy from the time she enters the building until she leaves at the end of the day. She always has a smile on her face even when things are germy and messy. We rely upon her so much, and we couldn't imagine where we would be without her.
Alyssa Miller (3rd grade teacher): Alyssa is very reflective in her teaching practice and makes sure every student is successful every day. She has an approach that makes all students feel loved and is definitely a staff and student favorite!
Germs Away
FHN came to PES in September to teach kindergarten and early childhood about germs. Representatives from FHN teach a fun, interactive program about hand washing and hygiene. It was perfect as we begin the school year!
Jog-a-thon
Pecatonica Elementary hosted their annual Jog-a-thon on Friday, September 19. Students and staff spent the morning walking/running around the track at PHS. We even started the morning with a teacher/staff inflatable race! We want to thank everyone who ran, sponsored, donated, or participated in some way with our event. The jog-a-thon is one of our biggest fundraisers we have at PES. This year we were able to raise over $6,600! Thank you all for your generosity!
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are scheduled for October 30.
A Sneaky Shot
One of our sneaky staff members took a picture of Mrs. Lucas while she read to her class during her read aloud. This employee says of Mrs. Lucas, " She is such a fantastic story teller and all her students were so engaged!" We love seeing our teachers in their element!
🎃 Halloween Party/Parade 🎃
Event Information
Families are welcome to join us for the PES Halloween parade and classroom parties. Students will parade at 2:00 pm on October 31 (parade will be outdoors weather permitting). At the conclusion of the parade, families will be allowed to party in the classroom until dismissal. Please let teachers know ASAP if you will be taking your student with you (preferably the morning of the party at the latest). We hope to see you there!
Costume Rules 👺
🎃 Keep it Spooky, Not Scary: Avoid costumes with violent or bloody images. It's okay to look "spooky," but nothing gruesome or violent.
👁️ Masks and Makeup: Masks that cover the eyes and face are fine, as long as your child can see clearly. Please keep makeup minimal and apply it at home. Remember, learning is still happening.
🧥 Safe Costumes: Make sure your child’s costume doesn’t have anything hanging below the wrist or ankle to avoid tripping or getting things caught.
🎒 Easy-to-Carry Props: If your child has props, they should be easy to manage, especially if they take the bus.
🚫 No Weapons: Please don’t include any toy weapons in the costume.
Some Good News!
Throughout the month, we recognize students who do good things. When students go above and beyond to exhibit positive behaviors, we call home with their good news and display them on the office bulletin board, as well as in the PES Monthly Memo.
Gracelynn Melancen - 4th Grade
She's my hero this week!!" -- Mrs. Colby
Brantlee Hartman - 2nd Grade
Brantlee was nominated for Some Good News by Mrs. Moore. "Brantlee showed our visitors Mrs. Pfluger and Oliver the therapy dog where to sit in our classroom, asked others kindly to sit quietly when the visitor was sharing, and went above and beyond and shared the idea to make cards for Oliver! I am so proud of your kindness, Brantlee!"
Luca Marquez- Kindergarten
Mrs. Dulaney nominated Luca for our Some Good News board. She said, "Every day Luca comes to school ready to learn. He is a good friend to all of his classmates too!" Great Job, Luca!
Kayden Krise - 3rd Grade
Mrs. Rawhoof said the following about Kayden: "Kayden is doing amazing in math! After he finished his work he went around and helped others that needed help by explaining the concept to them without being asked. Kayden made sure each person understood how to do the math before leaving their side. He is a true leader!"
Grayson Menge - 1st Grade
Colin Busker - 1st Grade
Mrs. Hoffman says about Colin: "As we were packing up for the end of the day, there was another classmate who was upstairs working with another teacher and was not downstairs to be able to pack up. Without anyone asking, he collected her things and put them away for her. Along with that, he brought her backpack in the room and put that and her folder at her table spot for her! It was so incredibly sweet and kind, and really made her day!"
Zoey Richardson - 4th Grade
Mrs. Hecker recognized Zoey for her helpfulness and kindness. She said this about Zoey: "She noticed a preschooler lost this morning and grabbed her hand and took it upon herself to walk her to Mrs. Sneek's class. Very thoughtful!"
Blakely Cox - 1st Grade
Mrs. Hecker has noticed all the things Blakely from Miss DeWall's class has been doing to exhibit kindness. She said, "I have noticed since school has started how helpful she has been with one student in particular and also with many other kids. She's a VERY good sport and helper during recess with everyone. An all around good student!" Keep it up, Blakely!
