News from the Principal
Greetings WE Families,
It has definitely been another eventful week at Westchester. The Book Fair has been a huge success. Thank you all for your participation and support for the love of reading. The students' faces are always so precious when they talk about shopping at the Book Fair. Ms. Nation and her wonderful volunteers put in a great deal of time to make this happen. Thank you!
Another beautiful Saturday made the PTA Family picnic so enjoyable. So many families came out to enjoy a relaxing Saturday on the playground. No frills, just gather together to share the afternoon.
Tomorrow is Community Circle, and we have a special guest. Our Principal for the Day, Miss Noa Hagigi! Noa will take the lead, and she has a message below. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning for our March Community Circle.
Hello Families,
I am Principal Noa. The students at Westchester have been working hard. So, they can bring a stuffed animal to school tomorrow. As you know, our teachers do a great job teaching the kids. They will have a special cookie treat tomorrow to say “we appreciate you!” Come join us tomorrow morning at our Community Circle. I think being the principal for the day will be fun!
April is upon us. There is no fooling around at Westchester. Be sure to join us next Wednesday, April 1st, for the Spring Fling Performance. There is a special show in store for you. The students have been practicing. Plan to arrive by 8:40, as we will begin promptly at 8:45 and wrap up by 9:45.

Spring Progress Reports
We are pleased to share that your child's Spring progress report is now available in the Parent Portal.
Please note that this report card represents a mid-semester snapshot of your child's academic progress and does not reflect final grades. Teachers will continue to update grades and provide feedback throughout the remainder of the year as learning continues.
We encourage you to review the report card with your child, celebrate their accomplishments, and discuss any areas where additional support may be helpful. Ongoing communication among families, students, and teachers is an important part of supporting student success.
If you have questions or concerns about your child's progress, please don't hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or school administration. We are committed to partnering with you to support your child's growth and learning.
Directions for accessing grades in the Parent Portal are on page 23 of the Grading and Reporting Handbook.
WE Students are Participating in the Special Olympics
After a full year of relentless practice and unmatched spirit, the big moment is finally here. Next Thursday, April 2, our athletes are taking their talents to the Special Olympics at Decatur High School!
Watching these athletes grow and hone their skills has been an inspiration to us all. They are more than ready to compete, and we couldn't be prouder to have them representing Westchester. Please join us in wishing them the best of luck. Go Wolves!
Exciting News: New Mosquito Buckets at Westchester!
We are thrilled to announce that Westchester Elementary is participating in the expansion of the BBUCKETS program this spring! Following a successful 2025 pilot, these specialized buckets are being installed across City Schools of Decatur to provide effective mosquito control while protecting our local pollinators.
Where to Find Them
We have installed 6 buckets across our campus to help keep our students and staff comfortable:
Front Campus: One at the main entrance, one at the west entrance, and one at the east entrance (to the left of the path).
Back Campus: One at the side door and one at the back door.
Nature Zone: One located in the pollinator garden.
Why B Buckets?
Unlike traditional sprays or fogs that can harm beneficial insects for weeks, these buckets use a natural soil bacterium called Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis). This targeted method kills mosquito larvae before they become biting adults without using synthetic chemicals, making it safe for the bees, birds, and butterflies that call our campus home.
Get Involved at Home
Want to bring this eco-friendly protection to your own backyard? All CSD families can receive a 10% discount on their own bucket systems.
