Lions' Update
September 11th, 2026
Message from the Principal
Families,
The last two weeks have been full of learning, laughter, and lots of community building at Mount Lebanon School! Our students have been busy building strong classroom communities while diving into our ELA (English Language Arts) math programs, science lessons and social studies.
We have also completed our fall writing prompt, which focused on who we want to be this year. I have enjoyed reading the students’ writing! We have a whole school filled with exceptional learners and curious minds.
One of my favorite moments from last week was when a kindergartener told me that he had made a mistake—and that it was a good thing because his brain was stretching! What a wonderful reminder that mistakes are an important part of learning and growing!
We are also excited to have held the first meeting of our 4th Grade Leadership Group! We can't wait to see these young leaders grow and make a difference at MLS this year!
Please enjoy the pictures below of students playing math games, teachers helping students closely observe and explore pieces of art, our first graders gardening, MLS staff sharing tomatoes from our school gardens with students throughout the cafe, kindergarten students celebrating their gem jar success with Costume Day, and our 4th Grade Leadership Group at their very first meeting!
It is wonderful to see our students and staff working together to build such a positive and caring school community. We are off to a fantastic start at Mount Lebanon School!
Please make sure you scroll to the bottom of the newsletter to see the first PTO event of the year! MLS PTO will be hosting our very own Fall Festival on September 26th from 11-1. At the Fall Festival we will also be hosting a winter grab and go that includes Halloween costumes!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I also hope to see many of you at the West Lebanon Block Party this Sunday, September 13th from 1:00–4:00 p.m. It’s free, and there will be food, lawn games, and a raffle!
Sincerely,
Katie Roach

West Lebanon Bridge Updates
The following is the weekly update and anticipated schedule for the week of September 14, 2026, for the South Main Street Dry Bridge project, as well as reminders for the West Lebanon Main Street Improvements project.
South Main Street Dry Bridge Project
The contractor will continue installing sheet piles for the cofferdams and will complete the construction of the retaining wall. Existing bridge demolitions and water service installations will also begin the week of September 14, 2026.
Utility relocation work is in progress and expected to continue for approximately two weeks.
The Dry Bridge will close to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 7:00 AM. A temporary, ADA‑accessible pedestrian footbridge will be available at the time of closure and will remain in place throughout construction of the new Dry Bridge. For safety, bicyclists are encouraged to dismount and walk their bicycles across the footbridge. Detours for motorists will be in place (a copy of the designated Dry Bridge Detour map is attached).
Please be advised that construction crews and vehicles will be active in the area while road work is underway. While the Dry Bridge will be closed, motorists traveling near the construction zone should exercise caution as construction activities continue.
Additionally, Advance Transit (AT) has notified the City that bus service to the plazas will continue during the closure. Riders will take the Red Route bus to Lebanon City Hall to access the plazas, and all plaza trips will depart from Lebanon City Hall. Riders can access the Red Route from the nearest stop at Main and Church, Opp Church and Main, or Shaw’s.
AT will not be able to serve its current corridor between Main Street and Hannaford during the closure. The following stops will not be served:
• 114 Romano Circle
• 115 Glen Road Plaza, Opp
• 128 Glen Road Plaza
• 129 Romano Circle, Opp
For the most up-to-date detour map and schedule AT and the City encourages AT Riders to check route availability on the Advance Transit website.
If you or someone you know cannot walk to the nearest stop because of a disability, AT encourages riders to please consider applying for the Access AT service.
Ashley Manning, AT’s Interim Executive Director, and other representatives for AT will be at the Block Party on Sunday and will be happy to answer any questions.

West Lebanon Main Street Improvements Project
While we have nothing new to report for the Main Street project, we continue to provide the following reminders:
Unfortunately, the paving contractor was unable to schedule the paving of the side roads for this week. However, the anticipated schedule now indicates that the side roads will be paved by the end of September.
- Tracy Street
- Tracy Street/Maple Street intersection
- Atwood Avenue
- North Railroad Avenue to Commercial Drive
- South Railroad Avenue to 8 Railroad Avenue
- Church Street West
As soon as we receive additional information from the site contractor regarding more precise timing, we will share an update with the group and issue a LebAlert to the general public.
As well, the Block Party and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the project is scheduled for Sunday, September 13th, from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Kilton Library. We look forward to seeing you there!
