BHMS HonorsCourse Drop Window8/7-8/21 26-27 School Year

What if, after starting the semester, you decide an Honors/Enhanced course isn't the right fit?

This guide outlines who is eligible and how to drop an Honors or Enhanced course at BHMS. The window to drop an Honors course is August 7 through August 21.

Who is eligible?

6th-7th-grade students enrolled in the following:

  • 6th and 7th ELA Honors

  • 6th and 7th Math Honors

  • 8th Enhanced ELA and Math

8th Enhanced Math and 8th Enhanced ELA are high school-coded courses and will follow the DHS Drop Period policy.

What are the criteria to be able to drop an Honors/Enhanced course at BHMS?

  • There must be room in the course where the student will be moved.

  • The parent/guardian must acknowledge that the student’s schedule may be changed.

    • If the student is gifted identified, the parent/guardian must also acknowledge that the student will not receive gifted services in the subject of the dropped course.

  • The request must be submitted during the drop/add window on the provided Google Form.

  • The parent/guardian must submit the request using the parent/guardian's email. A student may not complete the form.

What is the timeline for the schedule to change?

  • The window to request the change is from 8/7 to 8/26.

    • The admin at BHMS will have until 8/26 to change a student's schedule.

  • BHMS internal processes:

    • We will process requests 1x a week.

    • After day 10 of the school year, if the total requests to drop Honors courses are large enough to require changing an entire section from Honors to On-level, we may change the schedules of students who were previously moved to fill that section. This may result in more than one schedule change for some students.
