A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride!
I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful weekend. That was my plan, too, as my family and I headed to the beach, but for my youngest daughter and me, the trip was cut short. On Friday night, it became clear that she had caught the stomach virus that some of her classmates had last week, so we headed home Saturday morning. While I would have preferred to relax by the beach, I did manage to get some restful and relaxing time at home. Luckily, she’s starting to feel better.
On Thursday, I had an interesting conversation with Mr. Carroll (Mr. C.). We were joking about how our car loop seems to have some strange battery-draining power—where a car sits for 25 minutes waiting for dismissal to begin, and during that time, the battery mysteriously drains. This past week, we had two days with a dead battery, and on one of those days, there was also a flat tire. If you were one of those three parents, don’t worry—it’s not you, it’s our car loop! About every other week, we find ourselves responding to a dead battery situation.
But this message isn’t about the cars that broke down—it’s about everyone else. That’s what Mr. C. and I were discussing. We were talking about the many parents who stopped to ask if we needed help, and how not one person honked impatiently despite the slight delay. Even more impressive was that, on both of those days, without hesitation, we briefly adjusted dismissal procedures to work around the stalled cars, and all of you took it in stride.
The point is, I’m a firm believer in the values of support and flexibility, and it’s clear that you all are, too. For that, I am incredibly grateful.
I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
