What are we learning?
Language Arts
RLA Unit 5: "Farms: From the Ground Up":
- Learning About Farms and Food Sources: This unit educates students on where food comes from, exploring different farm animals, crops, and the "farm-to-market" process through engaging, rich read-aloud stories and texts narrated by a character named "Old MacDonald."
- Building Vocabulary and Understanding the World: The lessons are designed to build essential background knowledge and vocabulary related to farming, the seasons, and the importance of cooperation (using stories like "The Little Red Hen"), all of which support stronger listening comprehension and future independent reading skills.
Foundational Unit 5:
- Building a Reading "Starter Toolkit": In this unit, we are zeroing in on the crucial connections between letters and sounds. Your child is actively building their foundational "starter toolkit" for reading, learning how to sound out and decode words independently.
- Growing Knowledge Through Stories: Beyond letter sounds, we're growing our students' world knowledge and vocabulary. We'll be exploring different topics through engaging read-alouds, helping them understand new ideas and build strong listening comprehension skills that pave the way for successful reading in the future.
