Volunteer Status Update for 2026–2027 School Year Volunteer Status Update for 2026–2027 School Year

Please read the following volunteer update. We are expecting a lot of confusion about these new rules.

As we prepare for the 2026–27 school year, a new state law (Senate Bill 848) requires that volunteers in California schools complete:

  • child abuse
  • mandated reporter training
  • Volunteers will also need to complete a tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment or test.

If you are a current volunteer with San Juan Unified, you should have received communication regarding the need to indicate if you wish to remain active or not.

It is very important that all current volunteers complete the form, regardless of which option they choose.

Volunteers who indicate they wish to remain active will receive additional information regarding their next steps, including a link to self-register for required child abuse prevention/mandated reporter training. Only volunteers who opt to remain active will receive access to the training materials and instructions for a TB risk assessment/test.

Should you have any questions, please reach out to the volunteer desk via email at volunteer@sanjuan.edu or call (916) 971-7935. You will also find additional information at www.sanjuan.edu/volunteer.
