A NOTE FROM DR. COFFMAN A NOTE FROM DR. COFFMAN

At Meadow ISD we are promoting No Excuses University by Damen Lopez. No Excuses University is founded on promoting higher education for students in the future. Our goal is to set our students up for success in the future through leadership skills, critical thinking, and developing the whole student through rigorous academics, social skills development, and life skills. All students are learning about higher education in the classroom and Texas Tech University opened the door to us to visit their campus and learn about their history. We are appreciative of this opportunity to expose the students to a local university. Grades K-3 attended a storybook reading and campus tour today. Grades 4-5 will attend a more in-depth experience on Tuesday. The students had a blast and will more than likely come home chanting, "Raider Power!"

Congratulations to Emma Moya on winning first place with her storybook pumpkin, Ursula from The Little Mermaid! We appreciate you all working with your children on creating our storybook pumpkins. We had over 50 pumpkins decorating our library and at the Fall Festival! We enjoyed having them and are thankful for the time you spent involved with your children promoting literacy.

Please have your child collect a hand full of dirt from different locations and make observations about the characteristics of each type. You might even have them add some water and see if it is absorbed or if it passes through. 🙂

We have learned what fractions are, how to recognize and create equivalent fractions, how to simplify fractions, how to compare fractions, and how to add and subtract fractions. We will continue working with fractions for a little while longer.

Math

  • We are working hard dividing with decimals. We are trying to get to them fractions.
  • Please have your child practice multiplication math facts. We are still taking a quiz every week. The problems on our assignments are getting more challenging, and we want them to be able to work through them and not shut down.
  • We are scheduled a very busy week this coming week. I ask for your support to have your child in bed early Tuesday and Wednesday night because they will be testing. We will be testing Wednesday and Thursday morning. This test our students will be taking will give us a better projection on how they will do on the STAAR test and what are the things we need to learn and review. So please do not forget these little guys need a good night’s rest and to be here early so they can have breakfast Wednesday and Thursday.

Thank you for your support,

Stacy Gamez
