Important Update: CA Assembly Bill (AB) 2555 – English Learner Reclassification
California has passed a new law (AB 2555) that simplifies how English learner (EL) students are reclassified as Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP).
What Changed: Previously, reclassification required meeting four separate criteria. Under AB 2555, the ELPAC score is now the single requirement for reclassification. Schools cannot add extra requirements.
Who Qualifies: Students are immediately eligible if they score an Overall Level 4 on the Summative ELPAC or an Overall Level 3 on the Summative Alternate ELPAC.
What Families Need to Do: Nothing. Our school will automatically review ELPAC results, reclassify qualifying students, update instructional placement, and notify families. We will continue monitoring student progress and providing academic support as needed.
For more details, please see the attached flyer or contact the front office if you have any questions!
Reminder: Interdistrict Transfer Expectations
As a friendly reminder to all families attending Vasquez High School on an interdistrict transfer, students are expected to maintain good standing in attendance, academics, behavior, and accurate residency information.
Failure to meet these standard requirements may lead to a review and potential revocation of the transfer. This is a general courtesy reminder sent to all transfer families—no immediate action is required.
Please review the attached letter for full details or contact the main office with any questions!

To apply, students must complete the VHS Parking Permit Application and provide clear photocopies of:

Reporting Absences & Independent Study
***Please use this Google form to report your students absence:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScTbwhqxAwPoVR2HoblmHPR7UgO4yRMBPeVzxqD3t6HYffBxw/viewform
***To recover attendance credit for the day(s) your student is absent via Independent Study please contact me at your earliest convenience***
Here is how it works:
Independent Study allows your student to complete assignments for the time they missed. If they complete and submit the required work, attendance credit will be restored for those absent days.
To begin, we will need a signed contract from you/your family. The contract covers the entire school year, which means your student can use this option any time they have an absence (with approval).
Assignments will be posted to Google Classroom, and teachers may provide additional assignments to be picked up from the office or sent via email.
Important: ALL absences must be communicated to the attendance office in order to qualify for Independent Study.
If you are interested in moving forward, please let me know and I will send you the contract for signature. Once it is signed, we can begin this process immediately. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about how Independent Study works, the expectations, or anything else.
Click here for more information on Attendance Awareness and how to request Independent Study to recover attendance:

Tech Update: Student Chromebooks Required Daily
As we kick off the school year, please remember that all students are required to use a district-assigned Chromebook. These devices are essential for daily learning and ensure students can access instructional materials and testing applications securely. Personal laptops, iPads, or tablets are not permitted.
Here is what you need to know to keep your student ready for class:
Daily Prep: Students must bring their district Chromebook to school fully charged every day and take it home each evening.
No Classroom Charging: Classrooms do not have charging stations, so starting the day with a 100% battery is crucial.
Didn't Get a Chromebook at Registration? If your student still needs a device, you can pick one up directly from the District Office.
Thank you for helping us ensure a seamless, tech-ready environment for all our students!
