ELA- Mrs. Forderhase

This week students completed their theme summative assessment. Once assessments are graded, students will have the opportunity to reassess if they want to improve their score. We launched our Poetry Unit this week. Students will study poetic devices and vocabulary, read tons of poetry, and create their own poetry anthology! As always, thank you for encouraging your child to read his/her personal reading book at home regularly.

Science- Mrs. Kenney

This week in science, we moved into our Energy Unit. We began the week discussing temperature, heat, and heat transfer. Then, we completed two heat labs. In the first lab, students used the scientific method to observe how heat transfers between solids and liquids. In the second lab, students experimented with various types of metals. Students observed heat transfer with these different metals. We will continue with our Energy Unit next week. If you would like to support our classroom projects, we would greatly appreciate donations of tissue paper, duct tape, hot glue sticks, and glue sticks. Thank you!

Social Studies- Mr. Ward

This week in social studies, students learned how to read a simplified stock table and then applied their new knowledge to their stock market simulator. Students then completed a “Case Study”. In this case study students had to calculate Net Monthly Income, determine regular expenses, and identify a long term and short term goal. After completing this assignment students completed a practice quiz covering NMI, debit/credit, and taxes. We spent Thursday going over the results of the practice quiz and practicing for our upcoming summative assessment. The study guide for this assessment will be released to student on Tuesday,Feb 18th.
