Hello, Cardinal Family.

The start of the school year has offered many opportunities to celebrate the strengths of our students and community.

I would like to congratulate all students who participated in events at the Canfield Fair. Your dedication and talent were clear, and you represented our schools with pride. Special congratulations to Abby Riblet, who was recognized as Showperson of the Year — an outstanding achievement reflecting her hard work and perseverance.

Last Friday’s Community Night at the football game showcased the strong support that characterizes Canfield. I am especially grateful to our PTA, whose generosity provided free hotdogs, bounce houses, and other activities, creating a memorable evening for families. The large turnout of community members emphasized the importance of partnership in education.

We also had the honor of recognizing first responders and military personnel during our football halftime. It was a privilege to acknowledge their service and sacrifice. Their commitment to protecting and serving others is deeply appreciated.

As September progresses, I want to highlight that this month is National Attendance Awareness Month. Research shows that missing just two days of school per month results in a 10 percent loss of the school year. Strong attendance is essential for student success, both now and in the future workforce, and I encourage all families to prioritize daily attendance.

Looking ahead, our schools will participate in “It Starts With Hello” next week. This initiative promotes the importance of creating a welcoming environment where every student feels seen, valued, and connected.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and dedication to our students. Together, we are making Canfield a place where purpose, perseverance, pride, and passion guide everything we do.

Feel free to submit your staff and student achievements at CanfieldUpdate@canfieldschools.net.

Community Night Brings Families Together

Canfield families filled the stadium for a memorable Community Night, generously hosted by the PTA. From our youngest cheerleaders to the varsity squad, performances lit up the evening with school spirit. Music from the DJ kept the crowd energized while Superintendent Knoll and his team of principals served up hotdogs fresh from the grill. The night concluded with a thrilling surprise as the Canfield Fire Department delivered the Cardinal mascot, much to the delight of our youngest fans. It was an evening that truly showcased the strength and unity of the Canfield community.

Honoring Military and First Responders at Friday’s Game

During halftime of last Friday’s football game, Canfield Schools proudly recognized our military personnel and first responders for their service and sacrifice. The evening included the display of our district’s four Purple Star School banners, representing each of our buildings.

This designation, awarded by the State of Ohio, honors schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting the unique needs of students whose parents serve in the active-duty military, National Guard, or Reserve. The recognition reflects Canfield’s dedication to creating an inclusive and understanding environment for all students.

We were honored to celebrate these individuals on the field and thank them for the vital role they play in both our community and our country.

We’re Starting with Hello!

Canfield Local Schools will join schools across the country in celebrating Start With Hello Week from September 15-19, 2025. This national initiative, led by Sandy Hook Promise, encourages students to take small but meaningful actions to create a culture of inclusion and kindness.

Throughout the week, students will participate in activities that promote friendship, reduce social isolation, and strengthen a sense of belonging within our schools.

Through daily themes and acts of kindness, Canfield will help empower students to recognize peers who may feel left out and give them simple strategies to reach out with compassion.

Together, we’re fostering a stronger, more connected school community one “hello” at a time.

We hope everyone will participate! Here are our themes:

High School:

Monday: Name Tag Day (Meet someone new!)

District is Now “Cellphone Free”

Just a reminder, the district adopted a new cell phone policy, as required by law, that students will no longer be permitted to use cell phones, smartwatches, or other devices that send or receive messages and/or phone calls during the instructional day. The goal of this change is to create a more focused learning environment, minimize classroom disruptions, reduce disciplinary issues, and support lower stress and anxiety levels for both students and staff.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.
